Advice on Archipelago Maps please

Just starting playing on archipelago maps and wanted some general pointers, I'm generally beelining for sailing, knocking my nearest neighbour down to 1 city (so I can still tech trade with him) then looking for my next victim while trading with other civs I find (obviously without atagonising everyone).

I don't generally build wonders..apart fro the national ones and I play Elisabeth

Are there any other things I should be doing?

Send 2 workboats in opposite directions right away to meet as many civs as possible, and kill your 'trade partner' to cancel that "we yearn to join" unhappy penalty. You'll also have a chance to circumnavigate, especially if you play on small size maps. On standard size, you still have like 25% chance.

Beeline to Monarchy, then to Construction, and keep killing them. If your close neighbors have built Colossus or Great Lighthouse, these are your primary targets. Also, religious shrines.

Try to get some CRIII axes/maces, which you can upgrade to Redcoats later on. These things will be killers.
