Okay, working my way through the new civs in BTS and have reached the Native Americans. Thought a Great Plains game would be apt so away I go, getting a good starting spot in the upper middle/left of the map with plenty of space to expand.

Now, I'm doing okay but I'm just never sure how to play plains tiles. Grassland/hills on the right of the map is easy; cottage the grassland, mine the hills, food resources should catch the shortfall. But plains, plains are just tricky for me. I've been doing a mixture of cottaging (oo-er) and farming but it all seems a bit haphazard. Also, playing a philisophical leader and having caught the Parthanon early on, should I really be thinking about a SE instead and does that just mean more farming and do I need the Pyramids and Constitution for that to be worthwhile?

Anyone who's got five minutes to spare, please excuse the run-on sentence and have a look at the save game and let me know what you think.

Thanks.

Use the food resources to support plains cottages. Plains cottages still beat specialists if you don't have Representation.

Or invest your abundant hammers in military and capture some more fertile land.

Thanks. In the end I took your latter advice and with the combo of Totem Poles, Theology, Feudalism and Barracks churned out Drill IV Longbowmen. Shaka actually attacked before I could organise my stacks but lost his entire stack in his first assault which pretty much sealed his fate. I was about to go for a Domination victory against Gilgamesh with my newly uprgaded Drill IV Riflemen versus Macemen when I got a Diplomatic Victory option through the Apolostic Palace. One of my better victories.
