Advisor's need to be refined a bit, don't you think?

I think there should be percentage-based advisories...
I also find it strange that you could have an army of 200 warriors, and the enemy an army of 199 heavy tanks, and your advisor will say, "Our army outnumbers them. That's good!"

I might be too simplistic there, but... Is it FORCE or NUMBERS the advisor looks at?

(For example, with military sizes)

[These percentages are ABOVE]

10% or less - "Our forces can hold their own against the <civname>, but we're not in MY opinion ready to launch an offensive."

11-19% - "The enemy has no chance at defeating us outright if we're smarter."

20-29% - "Our forces outnumber our enemy appreciably. We are in a position to attack."

30-39% - "If we attack now our victory is all but assured. Our forces are much stronger."

40-49% - "We are much more powerful than the <civname>. Victory is assured, even in a long campaign."

50-59% - "Your excellency, (or whatever) our forces stand ready to crush the <civname> at your will. Victory will be ours!"

60-69% - "Our forces are numberless compared to the enemy. They shiver at the thought of our approach."

70-79% - "Our forces will destroy the <civname> outright. There's no stopping us. What's more. They KNOW this! <laughs>"

80-89% - "Militarily speaking, we have them utterly by the throat. They have no chance against us. Any campaign against us would be a futile gesture."

90-99% - "I'm sure you realize this, your grace, but we've only one more battle to fight before the <civname> are crushed outright."

Using percentages on the flip-side. (Let's say you're LESS!)

-10% or less - "We can hold our own against them, but we need to build our army if we're to stand a chance at defeating them."

-11-19% - "We might be able to hold out against them, but I wouldn't go out of my way to anger them."

-20-29% - "I advise against any military action against the <civname> Any determined attempt by them would destroy us."

-30-39% - "We have to face the facts. They outnumber us, and probably don't even fear us. We have serious preparations to make before we could even hold them back."

-40-49% - "God help us if they choose to press the attack. We don't stand a chance against them."

-50-59% - "Your grace, we MUST build an army now! The <civname> pose a grave threat to our national security! They could crush us easily!"

-60-69% ' "Your grace, we are in a complete state of crisis! Any attempt at defending ourselves against the <civname> is futile. We MUST arm ourselves!"

-70-79% "Your... grace. What can we do against them? Perhaps, if we can buy time we can arm ourselves, but... "

-80-89% "Your lack of leadership has led us to this point your grace. Compared to the <civname> we are nothing. They could destroy us at their liesure, utterly. I wouldn't be surprised if I were counseling <name of the civleader> this time next year.

-90-99% "Blundering FOOL! You've destroyed us! This is your doing! Our great society is no more because of you. The enemy is at the gate, and NOTHING can stop them!"

I know it's a bit dramatic, but don't you think it might add a little something?

I like that one the most.

I just think it might add a bit of excitement to the game. (It might also be neat if the background looks war-torn or something. LOL)

This game, like many other games has all the potential in the world. I have every confidence that this title, if altered a bit more, and given the expansion pack, would surpass Empire Earth and Rise of Nations if it hasn't already. (Yes, guys, I realize Rise of Nations isn't even out yet.)

Even though the turns are longer (and I will NEVER play on a map more than Standard) those long turs only seem to tell us that we're powerful. If, by the time you have 50 or so cities, you're just relaxing and clicking by, you're either building wealth or you don't have a clue what you're doing.

Actually that last statement was stupid but...

I'm enjoying myself, and with my next game I'm going to edit EVERY SINGLE unit to what I think is reasonable. Battleships aren't tough enough, transports are too tough, Tanks aren't tough enough...

I've already modified the range of artillery, etc... There's no way to make the game historical or really ACCURATE, but... I like that we can change the hell out of it, and I'm grateful to Firaxis for giving me a game I enjoy so much. Compared to Empire Earth, it's practically bug free.

<salutes>

So nobody else likes my advisory ideas? (I suppose it's pretty boring huh...)

I liked them. But you've got to realize that the military advisor is going to be a bit paranoid. So if a nation has a quantitative superiority, he's going to complain that they outnumber you, even though you may have a qualitative superiority. Apparently the advisors go by numbers of units, not by quality of units.

I got the "Compared to these guys our military is weak." just before I crushed the Persians. So what if they had three armies of spearmen and tons of obsolete units. My cavalry ran roughshod over them, while the riflemen held the flanks. I pincered off large areas with my cavalry spearheads and mopped up with riflemen.

What would be more important would be:

1. From the information we have, our military could crush them.
2. They outnumber us but we could defeat them.
3. We outnumber them but they could defeat us.
4. Their military is equal to ours.
5. etc.

And when it comes to disbanding an obsolete unit, the military advisor always protests. A new player could be persuaded to keep the unit. Perhaps a better approach would be to advise to replace the unit with a modern one.

I think that's probably just to make sure you don't accidently disband a unit rather than trying to convince the player to keep the unit...

Maybe we could have a "Saddam Hussein" button where we could slap our General across the face if he spoke to us like that again!!!
 Great Ideas! Do more for the other Advisors...

My advisor is especially unrefined don't you think?

i love your ideads - i am so tired of having an adivosr that only knows 3 sentences

would it be possible to have michael knight be one of your advisors? or have K.I.T.T.'s voice speak the sayings?

..yes, that one was done using the Editor (culture page). After posting the image I realized I had goofed up a bit - the grammar came out sounding like that crazy Japanese/English phrase "all your base are belong to us" - not my intention, but it makes the advisor seem even more stupid.

You also can have a lot of fun changing the words in the script.txt file. Try it and post some screen dumps. Could be amusing (but take note of the Forum rules regarding bad language etc).
