Affinities arent even balanced resource wise

One purpoe is not the same as none. You are really missing the point. Are you going to play harmony/supremacy, build farms, and then refuse to touch vertical farming because its a purity tech? Are you going to refuse to research solar collectors if you are not going harmony?

No. Harmony and Supremacy can still get vertical farming. But they will be one affinity level behind Purity after they do. They will stay behind until such time as the Purity player needs to research off-affinity techs of his own. But this discussion hinges on the idea that early Purity affinity is attached to much more useful techs than the other affinities.

Thats not a big deal as purity would be picking up harmony/supremacy affinities anyway for some of the useful techs.
