Ive been busy for a while, and when I looked back wow has it been that long since I played last, anyway...

First game for maybe a year (told you it had been a while), I have decided just to do a few random games, to get back in the swing. And in fact just to get my foot wet I did a cheiftan game with me following most of the ai recommendations.

Right now we have the blind date over (the AI sulking already), Im ready to play a real game. Im not sure if I will take over worker control (I dont want to get bogged down to much), but my question is really to do with wonders.

I seem to remember on here somewhere, there was a thread or tutorial, basically saying wonders were really something that could cause more problems then would solve ( the idea was what could you build or improve in the 50+ turns it took to build a wonder, was the wonder really worth it! ), does this advice still stand??

Many thanks.

You are referring to the article in the War Academy about curing wonder addiction - great article. Many new players concentrate on wonders to the detriment of rapid expansion. Then they wonder why the AI has so many more towns. Personally, I don't build any AA wonders, and usually only try for Copernicus and Newton in MA. I would suggest you learn to rex before building any AA wonders. Once learnt, then allow wonders to be built. Frankly, I think wonders are more fun to conquer...

Wait till after you've expanded as much as you can and then build in only a town or two as you can spare. (if at war for example you'll need alot of units so maybe build no GW unless maybe something thats gonna help you in your fight and you think you can grab and can be completed in reasonable time.)

well depends what difficulty you're playing. if youre playing chieftain then it doesnt really matter. you can pretty much build all the wonders and then some. on harder difficulties its hard to match the ai production. i think many ppl try to go for great library so they can keep up with with the ai in tech.

a common trick to building a wonder is to do a palace prebuild. that is, have the city that will build the wonder work on a palace. time it so that once the tech that enables the wonder is researched, switch it over to the wonder.

oh and you should learn to micro manage your workers. its fun, and you'll do far better than if you automated them.
