Hi all,

Who likes a challenge? Can you help expand my knowledge of the age of sail? :p

I would like to be able to (fairly) accurately date and class any (sailing) ship from it's image. Does anyone know of a time line that shows the many varients?

Depends on what you have in mind. I've got a timeline showing rough two-dimensional drawings of the most important ship types from prehistory till today.

wow. this is amazing. was gonna start a thread asking if anyone could find (or had) a list of sail ships by either size or class or something like that.

need the info for a game i'm planning.
figured i'd look into the other forums around CFC before posting in OT or NES forums. good thing i visited here. second thread.

Stefan, could you either post or PM/email me the timeline you've got.

are the drawings scaled? (relative to eachother i mean).

if anyone else has some of this sort of info, i'd love to get it.

i'm mostly interested in the ship types of i'd say 1500 to 1800 or 1900. you know, that whole colonization and pirating period.

my game is sea trade and pirating oriented, and i need to make some ship classes with (hopefully) size, speed, weaponry, hull capacity, maneuverability stats (atleast some of them, so i can grade the ships)

Such a timeline might be what I'm hoping for awell :)

Tharr you go, buoys 'n gulls...

It's a little darker at the edges, but that's because I scanned it from a book. If you've got any vocabulary questions, asked me (there wasa detailed explanation below, but I didn't scan it, since it's in German, and I doubt that would help any of you).

Have fun

Thanks for the effort! :)

Sadly, this timeline doesn't help me that much. I'm actually hoping to expand more on the 500 years from 1400 AD.
