Aggie vs Stapel

Stapel and me decided to do something useful with our Saturday and Sunday mornings. We both get up at 7.30 AM and at that time this place is rather empty.

We are both industrious/commercial (I am France, Stapel is Carthage) and start on different continents. Domination is switched off.

Turn2: I settled right away:

When I settled, I had food in my boundaries, alright

Aggie's advantage is bonus grass in the first 8 tiles. As he settles down, two cattle appear. I know beacuse I accidentilly loaded his game: A stupid bug in pbem when loading from the start screen.

But I will win anyway!

I have to admit that he is ahead in point after 20 turns. One reason may be that I didn't settle at the starting position.

I escaped doom yesterday. Around turn 25 Babylon decided to attack me. Don't ask how I managed to survive, but I did. I'm even ahead in the histograph vs Stapel at turn 39

My first settler was killed by a barby. It was on goto: that sucks in bpem!

 

[Aggie]

At turn 26 two Babylonian spearmen were standing next to Paris, defended by only one warrior (and a settler in it). They only had to attack. However, they decided to retreat and come back three turns later. I managed to rush a spear in two turns.

When the babylonians came for the 2nd time, I barely managed to survive an archer attack (one hitpoint left).

Around turn 35 I had an archer myself. The archer/spear combo killed two Babylonian archers.

One turn later I could make peace and even got a little bonus out of it.

We are now at about turn 65. Babylon is crippled by the early war. I'm not

Stapel and me started on different continents. This thread will be more intersting as soon as we meet each other. Check the spoiler for more info.

Aggie is ahead in points. I guess because of the lost settler.

Stapel and me agreed that we will not fight each other in this PBEM. We are still debating whether MA's with phoney wars are allowed but the main goal of this game is to win space race, domination, diplo or culture.

Aggie used suicide galleys and has discovered my island. He will give me one contact! I will give him two midle age techs asap.

I had an absurd amount of luck with my three galleys. Normally none of them would have survived

Extra deal: Aggie has republic. He will give it to me. I will give him a 3rd ma tech, but when I give the first of 3, he will pay 100 gold.

Turn 105:

The Babylonians are hurting. I didn't forget what they did to me at the start of the game

Turn 112:

I almost discovered Monotheism, but Stapel got it from the Babylonians! He sold them three ancient techs to let them enter the MA. Their free tech was monotheism, which they traded with the Germans (?) to get Enineering.

According to contract, I have to accept monotheism and engineering from Stapel. All reseach was for nothing

O top of that, I'm harrased by barbarians. So I left a city empty and had no cash. The barbs wouldn't be able to plunder my treasure this way. But I have to pay Stapel 100 gold. He gets that in two stages of 50 gold. It forces me to lower my research rate.

On the bright side: Babylon is almost gone and I still get a free tech

Aggie has astronomy in 2 turns. I gave banking to him, he will give astronomy to me in 2 turns.
