AI and chokepoints

I have noticed in a recent game that the AI really defends chokepoints much better in Conquests. This was on Emperor, and I was connected to the main continent by a two tile long chokepoint. The Germans seem to know this and sent two Spears to block it up and halt my expansion. About ten turns later they declared war and sent a few archers and warriors which I killed, but I was wondering. Has anyone else seen the AI defend chokepoints like this since Conquests was released.
I attached a screenshot just to show how they did. Those sneaky, sneaky little germans.

Yes chokepoints were discussed pre-Conquests I believe and the programmers responded by making the AI recognise and defend them. They would probably have fought you if you'd got there first.

They build fortresses on them, too. Unfortunately for them, they then put two spearmen in the fortress, and think that to be enough.

I was defending a chokepoint, the AI placed a unit next to my unit and then dropped other units by ship behind my unit. My unit became stuck!

They also declare war on me if i stop their expansion because I am blocking the chokepoint.
