AI bomber stupidity

in a recent emperor game as the Ottomans a funny thing happened....
the iroquois and myself, each to our own respected continents, were engaged a cold war of sorts. Hiawatha was lacking slightly in tech but made up for it in production and was churning out bombers and tanks at an alarming pace (information gained thanks to my spy).
The day finally came when war was declared and the 'Quois rebase their entire hard earned bomber force to the one city they had on my continent...

Needless to say it was the first city to fall and as my tanks rolled into its streets i watched with joy as 40+ bombers exploded like a fireworks show, effectivally eliminating Hiawatha's entire air force.

Moral of the story: It seems the AI will send its airforce to the closest city possible to their enemy in an attempt to "better reach their targets."

is this a sound assumption or merely a fortunate coincidence?

This is a tactic you can use in tough AW games. Not uncommon in contients at Deity. You face bombers and maybe let them capture a nothing town. Wait for them to rebase some bombers and take it back.

They will not be able to send all of them, but any will help. In your game the long stalemate allowed them to be able to dot, I am guessing.

Even better when rollin' into a city with stealth bombers because then you get to keep them.
