Hi,

I am playing a game at Chieftain level to learn how to war monger better. I am playing as the Chinese, on a huge map, continents, and am in the process of taking over the continent I am on. I am way ahead in science and have a ton of mu's.

I was looking for someone to go to war with and requested a town from Summeria. I rotated through each of their towns requesting each one and they refused as I expected. I then demanded a little rinky dink pretty much worthless town and they gave it to me which I never expected.

Has that ever happened to anyone else. I was not at war with them, just bullying them and they conceded to my demand. I have only played at Regent or lower level, but have never had that happen in any game, so it really surprised me and I am just curious if this is something that has happened to others.

They gave up a town without going to war? Seriously?

I thought this was nto possible in patched versions of Civ, especially so in Conquests!

It was my understanding that the AI never negotiated cities unless it was a peace-making deal.

You can't trade for cities, but you can demand for tribute. They'll give in (as seen) if you're very much more powerful than them.

It must have been truly rinky dinky. What, was it a one-tile island?

No - 7 of 9 squares on land but one of those adjacent squares is a vulcano. Probably a smart move on their part. Too much pollution.

Thanks for the answer regarding the AI giving up a city. Since I know the AI does this now, I won't demand a town I don't really want next time.

The only time I ever got a city from the AI was when I had just truel beaten them senseless. Even then it's usually only a size 1, 2 or 3 town.

I was moving settlers to a spot that I intended to settle recently (I was playing the Iroquois on a world map)... It was really one the last spots on the continent... in the northwest... Just as I was bringing my settler close, a new city popped in owned by Korea! I was so annoyed that I decided to attempt demanding the city from them and they gave in.

So it does happen. :)

No town is useless  - more power, more gold, more land, etc..... ;)

I agree with Dgfred. Even if a city is rinky dinky, It is still better than having no city

Nothing better than dreadnought backup ;) :D

Its usually a city thats surrounded by an enemy in a horrible position, like jutting out onto the water.

The only success I ever had on demanding tribute was 1 gold, and that was from the weakest civ, lol.

Really only the AI can get away with it. Whenever I'm in a position to demand tribute, I'm already so much larger and powerful than the civ I'm demanding it from, that they never have any tech that I don't have. I have gotten 25 gold and some captured workers a few times though...
