How is it , right from the first turns, the AI knows everything I do. They seem to know what units I have and when I make them. They also know when and where I settle cities. For example. If I do not have a navy I am looked down upon by Harold, But the very moment I create my first ship he is sends a message about how its great I have a strong navy. Or if I build a coastal city Dido sends me a message about how she she wishes prosperity to my inland cities only. How do they know this. Is there some way I can get this information about them?

Actually you can parse a lot of this information out of the demographics yourself if you really try. If you read a PBEM MP planning thread players can back-engineer what units have been trained, when policy cards were selected, city count, and much more without their rivals telling them anything or seeing any of it directly.

That's been true since at least Civ 4 also.

The military strength is easy. Just check the victory status tab for domination and their military score is listed in the mouse over. City numbers is relatively simple too since the list is in the trade screen.
