AI light-bulbing philosophy :(

So the other night i was playing a game and hoping to lightbulb philosophy from a great scientist (i was a philosophical civ) after nabbing code-of-laws with the oracle. So everything is going according to plan but then the Inca got code-of-laws and popped a scientist and in about 300BC they nabbed philosophy from under my noes (i was four turns from a great scientist). Grrr! Emperor difficulty. Vanilla (you might have to stretch your memory back a bit).

How likely is it for the AI to light-bulb philosophy? Are they much less likely to do so if Taoism is already founded? Do they bee-line for it if its not? Anyway, any help would be appreciated because the philosophy lightbulb is one of my favorite tactics with phil leaders and getting Taoism is a nice little side-benefit to being able to run pacifism. Also, i like establishing a philosophy monopoly on the way to Liberalism to form a sort of bottle-neck.

K, thanks for any advice.

I actually have a question related to this if anyone can answer. What is the pre-req to be able to lightbulb philosophy with a gs...is it CoL? Ive been able to lightbulb philosophy a couple times by chance, but almost every time my first gs will lightbulb paper, then education.

you just need to have follow tech to ligtbulb philosofy with GS:

Col or Dramma + Mathematic + Meditation.

Ai does ligtbulb philosofy very often, but less lickly if Taoism allready founded.

In my experience, the AI only light bulbs for a religion, so what you describe isn't very surprising-- in fact, if a GS is born at a certain time, I'll think, "well, there goes Philosophy." Otherwise, they'll keep them sitting around, sometimes for a hundred turns (if the AI gets an Engineer, say, and uses it for a wonder) waiting to get that Golden Age.

Mr. Civtastic, do you prioritize Civil Service? A quick look at the old tech tree would indicate that Philosophy comes first, unless you have Theology or CS-- and you don't strike me as someone who beelines to Theology, though I could be wrong.

I very often prioritize CS...and I very often lightbulb Theology with my first prophet from Stonehenge and/or Oracle. Which I suppose explains a lot.

Are you sure about Math?

Math is not needed for Philo (you can go for CoL via Priesthood + Writing, opening up Philo), but it's very high on GS bulbing list so to bulb Philo with GS you need to get Math done first.

Oh. I stand corrected. Thanks.

What Year did the AI lightbulb Philosophy? With Blake's AI improvement their more likely to lightbulb Philosophy earlier if Toaism isn't founded yet... I played a Prince game with Blakes AI improvements After he improves AI Great People usage and ... I forgotten exactly when but it was definitely before 1AD.... sometime around 1000BC the AI had Built the Oracle to slighshot to Codes of Law and Lightbulbed their GS at a the same time picking up Conf and Toaism in one shot...

Wow. Thats fast on prince. I wonder how he got math.

I played two games (but not with Blake's AI- they are vanilla games) recently where i got beat to philosophy. The first was ~300bc and the second was ~250bc. They were both emperor difficulty, once it was the Inca and once it was Ghandi.

most AIs Research Math early... It's probably partly my fault for not building the Oracle , denying the AI the free tech... ah well... who knows maybe the AI pop a late goody hut for math LOL
