Tomatekh's Historical Religions VII

Tomatekh's Historical Religions VII v3.5

Good news, everyone! The mod is finished! Just give me a day to make preview images, write the description, and do some code clean-up and I'll post it tomorrow after I get back from work.
Great work, we all appreciate the time and effort you put into everything. Thank you.

Hey guys, so the full release is up. Every religion from my previous versions is in the mod now and a ton of new additions.

Next, I'm going to see if I can add some interface adjustments, maybe with the size of the religion select screen and the options menu. I'll probably add a few more religions at some point (there's some I didn't get to and feel free to give suggestions), but that probably won't be for a while since the mod is already ridiculous. Use the config file to lower the number of added religions :P

Known Issues:
- The visibility on the city banner is still off. Again, I think I need the official modding tools to address this.
- Some of the names have random hyphens because if a name is 3 words or over, the interface pushes it to overlap the icon underneath it on the religion select screen. Hyphens helped get around this.
- Still no leader preferences. The tables are in the game, they just don't seem to so anything. The mod programs preferences just in case the tables are ever activated.

Let me know if you encounter any problems or if you want adjustments made to any of the configuration file options.

Very happy to see this, and I appreciate all the various settings and modes!
Thanks! I tried to think what would be useful and what people requested for the previous civ games, but I'm happy to adjust them further based on feedback.

things are right in the universe
Wish religions had civilopedia entries though that might kill you so idk

I'd loudly groan, but it actually wouldn't be that bad.

2/3 of them are already written because I wrote one for every religion in the Civ 6 version of the mod. I actually enjoyed writing them because I do do a fair bit of research for each religion and I know a lot of people enjoyed learning about the religions from the 6 pedia entries as well.

Of the new additions, ignoring new custom icons and repeat base denomination icons, there's also a bunch of modern religions which have good, easy to find articles online that can be copied. So, about half the new additions would be negligible.

IDK, I'd probably only have to write about ~33 more entries to cover the whole mod. I also already have the base research done which would speed things up. So, write one a day, finish in a little over a month. Not too terrible.

Ah ok (someone should add religion civilopedias as a mod

Yeah, it's only because I've essentially been adding onto this mod since Civ V. The versions for V and VI were much smaller on release and I gradually added entries to them over their expansions, so it wasn't too much to do all at once. I wouldn't have been able to release the VII version so completely so early if I wasn't able to build off the previous mods.

Religion is so bare bones in VII. I also wish they had at least pedia entries, not just for the background information but for the icons. Besides the new ones, I re-did a bunch of the older icons, and I think I made some really nice ones this time around. It would be nice to be able to see them easier, instead of only shrunken and blurred on the select screen.

If there are any religions you want more background on or want to know why I chose a name/icon, let me know. The config file has a short description for each one (which I added to the post) to help when enabling/disabling them.

Tomatekh updated Tomatekh's Historical Religions VII with a new update entry:

2.1

Small update, basically a bunch of little things that are kind of obvious to do but I only noticed after I posted the final version :/
  • You can now use the custom religion list to enable / disable individual religions in any mode, not just Complete Mode. Note, you can only enable / disable within the mode’s set of religions; you can’t add religions to a set. So, if you want to be able to adjust the entire religion list, you still have to set the mod to Complete Mode. Notably, you can disable denomination groups and only use the base religions in Standard and Expanded mode now.
  • The Mode Options now work for all the mod modes. So, you can also limit the selection to Exploration Era religions only in Complete Mode now. Note, this will override enabling the religions in the custom religion list.
  • (Both of the above were only not in it originally because of the order I coded stuff )
  • Corrected some religion icons that were loading in the wrong modes (but I might have accidentally recreated this issue when I combined the custom religion list, so let me know if any icons / custom icons are loading where they’re not supposed to.
  • Fixed an issue where two of the custom icon versions of the religions were loading with the wrong art.
  • Touched up a few of the icons
  • Added 3 religions that were requested during the Civ 6 version of the mod and I forgot to add when making the new version.

ok I checked:
Xiantiandao
Mahasamghika
Rastafari
Saryastivada
Utaki Shinko
Hermetism and Rosicrucianism I am not sure if they are custom icons or not
also I do not see Sthaviravada

This is one of the best mods out there. It misses some sects/religions but in time I am sure this mod will be super rich and colourful to play with. Thanks!
Thanks! If you list the ones you want to see, I'll probably get to them eventually. I likely won't be adding anymore until the first update after the Steam Workshop release. I have to take a break at the moment (the additions in this last patch was just because I had to fix some issues anyway and I had two of the icons done previously). I feel Workshop mods have been delayed anyway. When it's added, I'll probably do a quick port identical to what's here on/shortly after it's added, and then some time after an update hopefully fixing the art issue, some interface tweaks, and adding some new religions.

Of those, only Rastafari doesn't have a pedia entry from a previous mod. Hermetism and Rosicrucianism are custom icons, since I feel they work better as religious undercurrents than practiced religions. The Buddhism stuff was actually already in the mod, I just deactivated it before the previous release to correct something. Sthaviravada is not there.

Hey, everyone. Sorry for posting the update without notes before.

First, the mod is now on the Steam Workshop:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3507130398&tscn=1750720157

The Steam install directory is usually something like:

~\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\1295660\3507130398

If you use the mod, even if you don't use the Workshop, I'd appreciate if you can give it an upvote there so it doesn't get buried with all the new releases.

~~~
The new version is largely the same as the previous version here, except I've replaced Expanded Mode with Streamlined Mode. I felt the previous Expanded no longer served a purpose once I got the individual list working with all the modes.
- Streamlined Mode loads all the religions but denominations and sub-religions are disabled.
- Added a bunch more alternate names in the config file.
- Tweaked a few of the icons and names.
- Misc. clean up.
New Religions:
- Neo-Confucianism
- Haymanot (Beta Israel)
- Kukradja (Macro Je)
- Mitambiko (Chagga)
- School of Naturalists (Warring States Philosophy)
- Benesmen (Gaunche)
Finished the Buddhist Split:
- Mahyana Split:
-- Pure Land
-- Tiantai
-- Huayan
-- Nichiren
- Sthavira Nikāya (Base Denomination):
-- Pudgalavada
