I was wondering how do I find out what the AI is researching and how many turns before they complete their current project. They always seem to know that I only have one turn to complete my current research project because that's when they always offer to trade it to me. I'd be less hesitant to trade away writing for masonry if I knew they had one turn to go for writing while I had one turn to go for masonry.

They shouldn't be able to know what I'm researchingand when I'll complete the research. It's not fair. Unless one of you has the answer....

IIRC
There's no sure way to get to know that, sorry...

There is no way to know for sure what they are researching and how much they have done unless you 'cheat' by using a saved game editor that can give you that information. But, you can guesstimate what they are researching (what they prioritize) by using the information in this thread:

What will the AI research next

Keep in mind, that there is a random factor involved, and it depends on what tech choices they had when they start (they won't pick a new tech until they acquire the one they had started on).

You can also sometimes tell if they're researching a tech you already have. Say one turn you offer an AI civ banking and they're willing to pay 1000g for it. On the next turn you offer up banking again and they're only willing to pay 850g. If no other civs (besides the two of you) have learned banking in the interim (prices go down when more known civs already have the tech), then the difference in price is because they're already researching it.

This only works if the AI civ has enough cashtechs/etc to pay full price, though -- otherwise the price could be going down but you wouldn't know.

The computer couldn't know what you are researching could it?

I don't know if the AI *knows* what you're researching, but it definitely knows it if you have something hot coming right out of the oven. ;)
