I am noticing how infrequently the AI escorts their settlers. This is really annoying, just because it starts to feel way too easy to just grab free settlers every game from the AI. They have enough units to always escort their settlers (especially on higher difficulties). There should be a hard and fast rule for the AI to never send out a settler without an escort attached to it. It would be much better than the current system which has the AI running naked settlers around screaming "take me! take me now!"
Edited to add this screenshot:
A couple turns ago China sent in an unescorted settler and I stole him and founded Pazyryk with him. Now this is the turn after I posted my criticism about the AI's naked settlers. A naked Sumerian settler appears right next to my land, with no possible city locations within sight, and a Sumerian war cart near by that could be escorting him (but just isn't). Mind you, this is on immortal difficulty. The AI needs to smarten up with their settlers.
Aaaaaand one turn later, I move my archer next to his settler. And he just leaves his settler put. Doesn't even move him away from me. So I'm just going to declare war this turn and take it.
