I've read a lot of people complaining of long waiting time between turns in the late game, several minutes in some cases apparently. I haven't been able to reach the late game myself due to various issues.
However, I've noticed something I thought pretty strange when I first launched a map. I was expecting "instant" AI turns in the very early game just as the other civ games, since there is very little going on at that stage. Surprisingly though, I noticed that from the very first turn, the AI takes a few seconds to do its things before control is back to me. At first I dismissed it as the game being very resource hungry and my CPU being under min reqs, but I am now suspecting there is a deeper issue here.
So, I am wondering if other people have noticed the same thing, and for that matter if anyone at all is getting control back instantly when clicking 'next turn" early on (in normal view, not strategic one). I'm particularly interested in hearing from people with high end machines.
