[BTS] AI World Cup

Wow i got lucky lol ;)

Will keep voting for Boudi, and hmm..
Qin. Justi is impressive and maybe favorite, but i like Qin's traits & chances.
War would not be easy for Justi this time, and if Qin gets enuf wonders he can win :)
Good semifinals ~~
Much depends on rex speed for Joao & Justi.

Justinian vs Qin 1AD update for game 1&2

Game 1:
Both looks in good shape. No wars. Qin with strong GNP (due to wonders I suppose) but Justinian with more cities and almost all religions.

Game 2: Again it seems to be even so far. No wars. Justi more land, but Qin with the wonders.

Civ4ScreenShot0290.JPG
Civ4ScreenShot0289.JPG

..side note - why there are 2 times each city in top5 cities screen?
Probably something to do with that the screen is from one of the AIs perspective.
Edit: In other words a bug in the cheatmode presentation.

Joao vs Boudica 1AD update for game 1&2:

Game1: Joao seems to be slightly better in most terms. He also has declared on Boudica 300 BC and they are at war 1AD but no captures. Boudica, why are you building Moais at the frontline?

Game 2: Here Boudica has the edge in several ways. And all religions. She DoW around 800 BC and captures 1 iron city. Peacy treaty atm.

Justinian vs Qin Semifinal Game 1 - The End

Relations are +5 by 500 AD. Qin techs well while Justinian tech Divine rights and focus on all his religions.

Qin with lib. Seems he libbed rifles.

Justinian in religious mode. The powergraph suddenly looks gloomy for him 1450 AD.

Qin of course declares right after 1450 screen.
1575 AD: Qins artillery approaching a city where Justy builds a maceman for his defence.

Soon after it is over.

Qin 1, Justinian 0.

A rather pathetic performance by Justinian. Culture victory was not even close for him.

Justinian vs Qin Semifinal Game 2 - The End

A game with no wars. Pleased relations and not too much shared border. Tech rate about even for both. Justinian spreads all his religions to Qin. Qin goes in culture mode. So do Justy.
Civ4ScreenShot0300.JPG

But Justinian is undecided. Build units. And..apollo.

Justinian finally decide for culture and the race is on for real

But too late for Justinian.

Congratulations to Qin for reaching the Final. Qin 2, Justy 0.

Boudica vs Joao - Game 1&2 - The End

We left 1AD with Joao in good shape and attacking in Game 1 and Boudica in good shape and attackingmode in Game 2. Those trends continued. The attacker captured cities steadily until domination win.

1-1 after 2 games.

Semifinal Game 3: Joao vs Boudica

Starting positions: A jungle area in the middle. More green tiles to Joao. Boudica need to develop that jungle area.

Startpos.JPG

Boudica struggles with that 1 size junglecity in the middle and Joao develops land easier. Religions even divided with Joao oracling theocracy. They even share same religion so pleased relations and not enough bordertiles to start plotting. I think 8 bordertiles gives better chance for plotting. Power even.

1450 AD. Still no wars. Joao gets the upper hand on powergraph.

A peaceful world and superior GNP to Joao results in this 1575 F8-screen:

And the culture win to was uncontested.

Joao 2, Boudica 1.

Congratulations to Joao for reaching the final.

The Final: Qin vs Joao
Best of 5 games.

Starting positions for game 1 and 2. (Same map but switched starting tile):

Prediction for game 1&2 The Final:

Joao will outrex Qin at least in 1 game. The second game I will have a little wager on Qin. Shared borders should trigger an early DoW at least in one game in this tournament. After all, he got a low peaceweight.

The Final. Joao vs Qin.
Best of 5 games on the same map with alternating starting positions. Both start on the upper half of the continent and both have to expand south. Western starting position has a little risk for being boxed in with clever and rapid city placement of eastplayer.

Game 1&2:
Spoiler :

Game1: Joao in the west. He cleverly place his 3rd city by the river far south among the elephants. Qin focus on central and wonders. The players have different religions. Joao quickly beeline to elepults. 400BC he declares and captures Qins Buddhist shrine. 1AD: 8 cities to Joao vs Qins 5. 1 ADscreens:
Spoiler :

Civ4ScreenShot0313.JPG
1 1 adwonders.JPG

Joao continued to push on and in 1450AD Qin throws in the towel.
1 end.JPG

Game 2: Even expansion and by 1AD city count was 7-7. Different religions. Wonders also even divided. The game saw not less than 5 DoWs. All by Joao! He got the upper hand after hard fights and by 1860 Qin was thrown out of the mainland.
2end.JPG

Joao 2, Qin 0.

The remainder:
Spoiler :

Game 3: Joao to the west, Qin east. Qin was the first to DoW 900 BC but no captures was made and the made peace soon. By 1AD Joao had 5 cities vs Qins 4. Qin with the wonders and strong GNP. Joao best in food and hammers.
Civ4ScreenShot0335.JPG

600AD it was Joas turn to DoW and he captured 1 city. Joao pushed on and also got an ally by making the west islands a colony. It was an one way affair until Joao won domination 1836.
3 end.JPG

The 3rd and decisive victory.

And :trophy: is :
Spoiler :

:band:

Joao II
for an impressive 3-0 victory!

And also congratulations to:
Spoiler :

Fippy for outstanding predictions

Thanks for this World Cup :) Most interesting was to see what and how AI "do" 1 vs 1 without human in middle :)
And congrats to Fippy too :king:

Most interesting was to see what and how AI "do" 1 vs 1

It was a lot of domination victories, with a couple of culture victories. Space was not even near at any point for anybody. Seems that if a war starts rolling it is no way to stop them pursuing that victory condition. The game is probably better balanced towards different victories, with the default size, 6. The different flavours for more/all AIs have a better chance to shine.

Yeah thanks Tom, fun to read during break at work. In Duel, where you start wit 50% of the land domination is not very far away after one successfull war. It is the 1:1 concept that does that, with more AI's you should see more victory types. I also believe that the underperformers lik Shaka stand a much better chance when you start with knock-out right away. Maybe a nice idea for a series: start with X players, where X ranges from 2 to 8 (next round when half the field has won or something like that). Ofcourse this requires quite some effort to do. Oh, and if more people post (unlike lurkers like me), Fippy should post last. Even her prediction about stupid Maoi building was spot on  .
