2 Questions:

#1. Does the AI EVER get Great Leaders? If so, what do they use them for? I have never seen an AI army, and wouldn't be able to tell if they used one to rush a wonder or not.

#2. Does the AI ever make armies? I am yet to see one...

Of note: I play on monarch level, so I figure I should have seen one by now if they exist. Can anyone confirm or deny that AI leaders ARE or AREN'T coded into the game?

Thanks, SD

Of course they get Great Leaders! In vanilla and PTW, they'll use them for wonders, then armies. In C3C, it's broken right now.

I have never seen an AI army in C3C. But I have seen leaders pop up. I have only heard about one account of an army in C3C (That doesn't mean that there haven't been more reports). LKendter appeared to have had one in one of his SG's.

Yes they have armies. They load army with some silly combination of units. I saw army contained swordsman, knight, spearman. Pretty stupid, heh?

Well, maybe you`re right. I cant remember, but I think it wasnt in Conquest.

You get to see AI Armies in C3C only in the scenarios. On the core game I have been playing for months-almost every night- and I still haven't seen any. On PtW it was really cool, because the AI made great use of armies filling them with say 3 or 4 modern tanks. The AI gets plenty of leaders in C3C but they use them to rush...barracks or other crap, not to make armies.

You have more chances of popping three SGL's in one turn than the AI building an Army in C3C.

The AI will build armies in C3C. It appears to do so only when there are no possible buildings to rush, in some range around where the MGL popped (first city reached? Any city reachable? I really don't know). This is extremely rare, so they are only very rarely built. But it does happen, probably about as often as a full hp tank loses to a spearman. :)

In addition, the AI will only add a unit to an army when that unit has movement equal to the movement of the army. So, if an AI happens to get an ancient age army (one way or another) and loads a horseman, it won't load any more units until cavalry, since the movement of the army is now 3. Loading a cavalry into an army essentially locks that army into a single unit, from the AI's perspective. So, even if it gets an army, the AI is likely to screw it up.

If the stars align and the planets are all in conjunction and the AI actually gets a viable army built (say a knight and two cavs), it actually uses it reasonably well. Sure, the human will bombard and kill the thing ASAP, but it's a challenge. AI armies will also attack other armies, which is a good thing from a challenge perspective. But getting the AI to have said armies is nearly impossible.

I play C3C unpatched and have seen the leaders created but never an army.

I'm playing civ 3 PTW and haven't seen the AI pop a leader EVER ! And that includes about 50 games on Monarch level. Can any of you recall a specific event, or way that the AI got one? Was it in battle against you, or another AI opponent? I'm very curious about this, because I've never seen it happen.

All the time. Just watch the video thing at the end of the game, and you'll see the AI get their fair share.

I've seen the AI build a few armies in C3C in my recent games. Even if they do fill them with stupid units, they can be quite a problem at times.

Thanks! This makes a lot of sense when I compare it to my experience.

I've played 100+ games on PtW all levels and I've seen a lot of AI Leaders and Armys.

In the core game or in the scenarios? this is the first news I have of AI armies in C3C core game. What's your version or patch you use? What level are you playing at?

THis happened to me this morning, I'm Germany, Russia had just discovered "invention" and the next turn he had Leonardo's built, Since we know the AI doesn't "intentionally" prebuild the only explaination was they used tha SGL to rush it. As far a military armys go I have not seen one for a long time.

I've seen the AI build an army only of cavalries, but it kept into a city which then costed me a lot to take over.

I've seen them in both the campaign and in regular games if I'm not mistaken. Once, I was trying to take a town and it turned into an army-army battle that I wasnt certain I could win. Crazy AI. =P

yeah, the AI uses SGL's to rush whatever they are currently building in the city the SGL appears. So if they are buiding barracks they will rush them, if it's building Leonardo's it'll rush that. Stupid AI :crazyeye:
