I am having a problem with AIM. When I open it up, it works fine for several minutes, from 5-30 minutes, then something weird happens. it seems to go crazy, and consume all of the CPU power in my computer, and then nothing else works. I know when it is doing this, 'cause you do the Ctrl-Alt-Del thing, and the Task Manager comes up, and it shows "aim.exe" consuming all of my CPU, which emans nothing else runs properly. How can i fix this? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

And that is not the first time that this has happened, it has happened with other programs, sporadically in the past, but this is the first time in several months that AIM, or any other program, has gone weird. And I first noticed this AIM problem about a week ago, before I updated AIM. The problem still occurs after i updated it. Please help me!

AIM is the devil, unless you specifically download an older version, AIM will put a ton of spyware on your computer, and if someone tries to uninstall AIM at that point, then the viruses come in. No one belives me, though. :(

As for your problem, personally I would just burn all my stuff on that computer to CDs and reformatt the harddrive, as I'm through with trying to fix computers, as things always seem to get worse. But that's just me. :)

Do not listen to this. AIM does not install a ton of spyware - they just access a bunch of ad servers, which are easily blocked if you know how. Also, uninstalling AIM does not constitute any reason for viruses to "come in." He is right in suggesting that you install an older version. (http://www.olderversion.com ) and seeing if that helps you any. You will of course want to completely uninstall AIM.

You could also use one of the interoperable clients such as Miranda, Trillian, Odigo.. or any of the Jabber clients which use an agent* to link the Jabber and AIM networks.

* Slightly more complicated but I think Jabber has a brighter future so learning it would be valuable..

Hmm . . . yes, I think I shall try for on Unistall, and re-install the older version. And that Ad thing might be the reason for sporadic Ad-blocker warnings things. Anyways, thanks for the info, i'll let you guys know how it all works out.

The "if you know how" part is important, as computer illerates like me are completely defenseless against the spyware from the ad servers. :p
