In my current game the Elohim adopted Octopus Overlords and their alignment switched from good to neutral. Not long afterwards they converted to Empyrean. But instead of reverting back to their original alignment (as one would expect for a good civ with Empyrean) they remained neutral.

So is their original alignment forever lost unless they convert to Order?

Is there a better way to do this so the alignment effects of religions don't continue to affect a civ after they leave it?

Also, since Order and AV switch the civ to Good/Evil regardless of their current alignment, and Runes & OO switch the civ to neutral if they are evil & good (respectively) and FoL doesn't affect alignment at all, it seems there is a different function Empyrean and Esus could perform. Empyrean could move evil civs to neutral and neutral civs to good. It'd at least be a "way back to the light" for stray civs.
 
Currently, it requires the Order to become good.

I'm trying to figure out how to make the Empyrean move each civ one step towards good, for a future version of my modmod
 
Yeah that was something I'd been expecting to happen in 'Shadow', with Esus as a countering "way back to the dark". ;)
 
I'd rather see Esus turn Good civs Neutral while Overlords shift anyone one "step" to Evil (Good -> Neutral, Neutral -> Evil). The Council of Esus just doesn't seem as Evil as the Overlords. Sure, the Council's all about deception and amorality, but I don't see it as anywhere near as destructive and cruel as the worship of insane creatures formed from the nightmares of a comatose god (who is himself being tormented in his sleep by minions of madness). The Octupus Overlords build asylums where they drive people insane and use the madmen to further their schemes of complete dominance. The Council of Esus strikes deals with other amoral people and backstabs everyone else.

Yeah, me too. Once I wanted to make Esus move one towards evil and empyrean move one towards good, but then I read a post by Nikis-Knight where he followed the same reasoning as you and I changed my mind. When I figure out how to do this, I'll put it in my modmod.
 
True, and OO are the ones who affect the AC when formed...
