All kinds of problems after 1.09

While I had problems prior to 1.09, nothing like this.

I used to have "some" stuttering during the moving sequence. Now the world wonder movies stutter constantly.

The game hangs or CTD during long and big games. This happens more and more as the game progresses. Playing Terra map, no one has been eliminated yet and I'm just colonising the new world. I can expect a crash or hang ever 3 to 5 turns.

I'm running WinXp and have an AMD Athlon 64 3000+(1.8GHz) with 1GB of RAM.

I have an NVIDIA GeForce 6600 PCIe 512. I have the newest forceware.81.95
Sound card is SB Audigy 2 ZS with the newest drivers from creative.

I'm frustrated, because as it currently stands, I am unable to play long games.

I rolled back my drivers to 71.9 and it seems to work "fine"...I still get the video stutter, but it isn't crashing left and right.

Hi

I'm "glad" I'm not alone.. Prior 1.09 I problems, but stuttering wondermovies was not one of them. Now, they are completely unwatchable, with a framerate of approx 0.5 fps and out of sync audio.

No need to say, that system is completely optimized, no viruses, no unnesecary services, and fully defrag'et.

The worst thing is however how slooow the games gets at the end, especially at the city screen I think. Even tiny things like assigning a specialist, or adding/removing something from the production queue has a lag more than a second.

I've only played on small maps with a 3-5 other civs. Can't imagine how it would be on a large map :-(

Similar rig to my own. Mine runs like a champ. Let me ask you, though, have you tried playing on something smaller than a Terra map?

Don't get me wrong, the game still crashes. Just not as frequently, and when it crashes it isn't because of video. I actually get a "civ" error message, and then it dumps me to desktop. On this game I've been playing it has happened 3 times, once during auto-save (which was corrupted). I'll write the error message down next time, the other times I was too frustrated and clicked ok before copying it down.

I've played a few of the other maps and have the same problem in the end game. Prior to 1.09 it ran pretty well, I mean it got noticably slower, but it was very tolerable. My system normally runs games very nice.

Like I said, I rolled back my nvidia drivers and the game is running "normal" again. It just does not seem to work well with the newest drivers, at least not with the 1.09 patch. I still have problems every now and then, a ctd resulting in a civ4 error, but it isn't every two or three minutes like before.

Hi

I got my stuttering movie problem solved, along with other issues. I think that the stuttering has something to do with the patching after manually having extracted the art.pak (or like) file.. In any case, here's what I did:

- Increased AGP aperture size bios setting from 16 to 256. mb
- Completely uninstalled Civ4, deleting all files and clearing up registry.
- Reinstalled Civ4 and applied the 1.09 patch.
- Defragged the harddisk.

Now, I only had an hour to test, but performance is much better, with all movies just fine. And I'm using 1024*768, medium graphics quality and 2x AA - quite sweet.

No, if they just could fix that awfully slow city screen :-)

My computer is the exact same as yours. 3000+, 6600GT, SB Audigy, 1 gig ram.. and I play just fine up until about 1800-2000 when the game will hang every few turns. It doesnt CTD, just freezes and spits out screatching noises from the speakers.

I didn't have any problems pre-1.09, but after the patch, I suddenly don't meet the hardware requirements. Before the patch, I could run the game with all graphics settings on high and almost fluid game play. With the patch, I have to have all the settings on low and everything disable, etc., and the game is extremely choppy and slow. My integrated graphics card doesn't support hardware t&l, but it wasn't a problem before.

What forceware drivers are you using? Try going back to the 71 one, it enabled me to play a bit longer without the hanging. Now it just CTD's, but I get a civ4 error first.
