Ya thats right I solved them all by removing the game sticking it back in the box and taking it back to the store and getting my money back . Patch was a joke couldn't even keep the game from shuting my PC down long enough to download the damm thing , I will purchase this game a year from now when its on the bargain shelf for 9.99 since in my eyes thats all its been proven to be worth. I would suggest everyone that is having problems to do the same WTH should we have to have so many problems to enjoy a game we should just hit 2k where it hurts in a mass return rate and let them see how much they really ****ed up maybe next time they won't use there paying customers as there guinea pigs and put out a quality game .

I was wondering if you have tried AE3 (Age of Empires 3)? I was just curious.

You're right man...I don't have luck also...with or with out the patch I can't play the game...so the only solution is to return the game---and maybe orient myself on a pirated software, what's the point of having a registered copy of the game if support is not solving your problem---worst of all is that in the past 2 week almost everybody played a free beta testers for Fraxis and 2K.
I'll never buy another game from Fraxis or 2K---I promise.

As for AoE 3,I tried it,I have it,I like it(not so much the single player, but is ok),I won't return it and I'm happy becaue I can play it---not like some games I have.Microsoft knows how to please gamers,by releasing a quality game with a quality support.

I wanted to return it but couldn't, because I'd opened it. No refund, only exchange for identical item. Bollocks. Never going to buy a new game again.

Give it time maybe a better patch is in the making.

I saw posted somewhere that according to the warranty posted on 2k Games website, you can get a refund if the game fails to install. Worth a try.

Ya I actually picked up AE3 after I took this one back and have been enjoying it since it was installed with no problems at all . And as far as the return goes if you buy it from EB games you should always spend the extra 3-4 bucks to get the extended waranty for a year (its definently pays off) incase a game like this is purchased you can take it back no matter what for full refund or exchange even if its open. Also for the people that didn't get it for this game the guy at EB told me that you can still get a refund but unfortually that means you have to send it in to 2k games and get it thru them

I don't know about you man but I've givin this game more time then it deserved I had a pre-ordered collecter's edition which I only got the luxury of playing for maybe a hour total without it crashing or some other bug happening and by the time they released a patch it was so messed up that I couldn't even keep the game from shutting my system completly down or locking up completely better yet stay open long enough to download a patch. I work hard for my money as I am sure everyone does and I feel these guys just took it from under my nose and laughed at me about it with there crappy product.

All that said a patch does no good if the game don't run long enough to download it you can keep waiting and hopeing all you want best of luck with that but there time with me has run out .

I don't mean to be offensive, but you could have tried downloading the patch straight from the internet rather than through the in-game update option. But whatever.
P.S.: AOE3's alright, eh? True, if I have a sea battle my craptop stutters to a halt momentarily, but still...

Oh, absolutely. I'm sure I'll get to play the game someday, with a better patch or a new video card or something. This seems like one I'll just have to wait out.

While I fully intended to purchase Civ4, I have been using a pirated version and installed the patch w/o having to replace w/ an updated .EXE. The game works better now but it's still far from "perfect". Based on others experiences I won't be purchasing this game for a long time - at least until another patch or 2 comes out and perahps never if lots of people are still having problems in 6 months.

I don't feel any remorse for my actions in the least.

You admitted to piracy on a public forum, where your IP address is logged for all the moderators to see. Smart, very smart....

I am just extremely annoyed at Firaxis on their Civ IV blunder. I look back at Civ2 and Alpha Centauri as the golden years of Sid & Co, but the later stuff is just failing to meet basic standards of acceptability.

I didn't have as many problems as most people had on unpatched Civ IV. I still dealt with huge slowdowns and stuttering movies, but that was the extent of my issues. With 1.09, the game crashes frequently and I'm lucky if I'm able to get by without it restarting the whole comp altogether. The patch log stated that they 'improved bink playback', when it seems to me they only switched priority for movie playback from video first and sound second to vice versa, so while I don't get sound stuttering anymore, I get visual stuttering instead, where I didn't before. And they STILL haven't fixed the problem with Sid's Tips and the info popups (the ones that show the relationship modifiers during diplomacy) from randomly deciding not to show up anymore. And the game still slows to a crawl for no reason. I won't bother posting my specs; with my hardware, I should be able to run TWO sessions of Civ IV at the same time with no slowdown. This is ridiculous.

If there's a reason console gaming is becoming more popular, this is it; sloppy coding continues to degrade PCs as a viable gaming platform.
