Hi all,

I eas looking for some information about possible Alpha Centauri 2. Firstly I visited Firaxis web site and I found there, that the licence for Alpha Centauri owns EA. So I wrote to EA and here is the text and their answer:

Hello Jaroslav,
Thank you for writing to us here at Electronic Arts.
Unfortunately, EA Customer Support does not have detailed information on game development and releases, as well as the consoles that they are to be released for. Information such as this is in the hands of the game's developers. If you wish to provide suggestions or feedback, I would recommend using our online forums at http://forums.ea.com which is regularly reviewed by our developers.
I would also recommend visiting our news site at http://info.ea.com/, which collects news and related media on upcoming releases as they are made available.
If there is anything else we may do to assist you please let us know.
Thank you,
Greg

Hallo,
I was looking for some information about possible continuation of Alpha Centauri and/or Allien Crossfire and I found in the web site of Fireaxis this:
Question :
I really loved Alpha Centauri! Are you planning to make Alpha Centauri 2?
Answer:
We are all big fans of Alpha Centauri as well. However, the rights to that game are owned by Electronic Arts (we were making games for them at the time) so any decision to make a sequel is up to them..
Maybe it is better ask You. Do You plan Alpha Centauri 2 with new engine like Civilization 4 or now preparing Civilization 5?
Thank You for Your answer.
Best regards
Jaroslav

It seems, that it is up to us. If many people visit this topic and write positiv response, maybe companies scent big deal and they offer us new episode of Alpha Centauri! :-)
Lets try it! :-)

These threads always become very depressing very quickly. I think the answer is that all SMAC fans should contribute just a little bit to a Civ V full conversion piece by piece from SMAC. It would be totally worth it.

cihlaschan,

Welcome to CivFanatics.

Firaxis and EA will not cooperate with each other. EA attempted to take over Firaxis. That attempt failed. So EA has the rights to the SMAC name. Firaxis has the people who are doing the Civilization games. And to make matters worse, Brian Reynolds, the lead designer of SMAC, is at a third company.

Both of you might want to visit my site to see what we are doing (hopefully, it will stop the depression).

It seems, that no Alpha Centauri 2 appears in near future.... :-(
Thanks for Your replays.

because we want it anyway lol. Maybe we want to run it on 64bit OS's lol

so does windows 2000, there is a 64bit version of it also

I can't get it to work on 7 64bit. I could with my old AThlon 64 and XP 64bit but not with my new Phenom X6 and Windows 7 64

What would you like to see in an Alpha Centauri 2 that isn't in Alpha Centauri?
Good question, I like old Alpha Centauri, you can manipulate with planet surface, you develop future technologies, but AI is poor. It could be very stimulating upgrade. Cities of fractions leaded by computer could be managed more effectively....
