Always need to alt-tab to enter game

I tried a search on this so I apologize if it's been adressed but is there a fix for having to alt-tab out of the game and back in just to play after you load a save file? I have to do this everytime I load a save game or create a new game. The program seems to get stuck but when I alt-tab out and back in it becomes responsive again. If there is no fix and this is a common problem is there a certain moment when loading / creating game to alt-tab out so it doesn't take 5 minutes just to get into windows.
