Am I missing something?

I've seen the computer recapture a whole stack of HIS workers and convert them to calvary or at least that is what it looked like. He had no troops except one infantry.

He recaptured a stack of 4 of his workers that I had recently taken. Right after that, 4 calvary come out of the stack where there was just one infantry and 4 workers. The workers are gone at this point.

Am I missing something? Is there some kind of liberation keystroke that would allow me (or the computer) to do this?

Don't think so, AIs do dismiss workers when they capture them most of times in my experience. They could have moved 4 cavalries into the stack when you did not see it and dissmiss the workers... That's the only logical explanation I can think of...

I'm guessing there's roads or something they're on, as you can't convert workers to calvary. You might not see the calvary because they're in the fog of war.

But I can guarantee that they're not converting workers to Calvary. You're probably just not seeing them get moved. Or the AI could be disbanding them because it fears that you can take them back. If the AI doesn't think it can safely get the workers back to it's territory, it will disband them.

What missiles? Probably the Missile defense system.
