Anyone tried this:

I was thinking that a good strategy for a blitz war may be to trade democracy to a civ for gold (lump sum) and tech and then attack a turn later. If the AI goes into revolution at the first opportunity, you will probably catch them in anarchy.

Because the CIV goes last, they will probably have some cities in disorder that they haven't had a chance to address yet. They lose 50% defense bonus in disorder.

Thoughts?

A similar strategy if you are in a govt. without WW and the AI is would be to declare war and wait about 20 turns before really turning up the heat. Stay defensive until their citizens get really PO'd and then turn up the heat.

does anyone know if the AI will actually switch govt's as soon as its available, or does it wait for some other trigger.

With the other AI tricks, I wouldn't be surprised if AI skips anarchy altogether.

They usually will switch as soon as they get it.

Also Anarchy is the best time to plant a spy in a rival civ. You have the best chance of not getting caught since there is no one in power.

How do you check the other civ's type of government at a given moment? If I see one in anarchy, I'd love to try it.

The only problem with planting a spy would be that, by the time I manage to build Intelligence Agency, everybody's already a democracy.

1) Yes, the AI does seem to switch govts as soon as it gets the tech.

2) The AI DOES go through anarchy; this can be verified by looking at the Military Advsior screen.

Also...I noticed in the editor that there is a "max turns" anarchy setting for the AI based on difficulty level. At the higher levels the AI is in Anarchy for much less time than the Human....making the window for this type of strategy much shorter.

The strategy probably works ok, but there are so many "ifs" in it that I don´t think many will see much use of it. You need to 1) be ahead in tech, 2) have a large army waiting at the border and 3) be very quick since the AI is in anarchy only for so long.

Also, I don´t think the AI cities fall into disorder since they use the governors and also have lots of defenders in their cities which decrease unhappiness.

The trick of declaring wars on democracies (and republics to some extent), however, works just as good as it works on the human. Of course, you lose the trading opportunities with the foe for that time, which in some cases can be a major factor on the decision to start the war or not.

how about this...when they are in democracy, declare war to them. they have to switch goverment after couple turns: anarchy!
