Well, since it's more a concept than a suggestion (and since Firaxis doesn't really care of our suggests now, it's too late) I'll post my idea here.
Yesterday, after being stuck till 4am on Civ2, I found something illogical with Civ2. I won't repeat since I already stated that here .
So, what I thought could be that Civ IV (he...) could really improve both the diplomatic part and the science part just changing the predefined tech tree.
I mean once you discover an appropriate "mother-tech", all the "heir-techs" are made available to you to research them. It would be more interesting to have only 2 or 3 of them appear at a time and of course they should appear randomly. So since each civ will follow a different way, exchange will be essential for them in order to survive. That would be also realistic, since exchange, trades = friendship with other civs = less war.
Concerning realism, what I stated does make sense, IMO, since in the real life you could see that was exactly what happened. Chinese discovered gunpowder/fireworks very early while European were more focused on philosophy. Then after Marco Polo, exchanges benefitted everybody. That was an example, of course. I think you understood what I meant.
Anyway, you might also find that I'm crazy and that also might be true. After all, it was 4 am and I was tired
Waiting for your opinions.
