Warlord
Recently I reinstalled Civ4 on my computer. About six months ago I did a new install of Windows, but did not install Civ. Prior to that I had been playing vanilla 1.61 and Colonization without any problems.
having decided it's time to have some fun again, I installed Civ4 1.74, Warlords 2.31 and BTS 3.17, thinking it would be best to use the latest updates. I had the d3dx9 problem, which seems to be because my DX9 was an older version and the new patches could not find the dll they needed to have. I installed the DX9, Nov 2008 version and that problem went away. However, Civ crashes frequently in any version I play. Sometimtes there is the "Civ has encountered a problem . . . ." message and sometimes it crashes directly to the desktop. I think it is either a video driver problem or DX/D3D problem, but have not a clue what. Read through the threads and tried everything there without success.
Attached is the dxdiag file and some event messages. There is always and application error message, and there was also system event messages from the ATI driver about invalid display type. I updated to the latest driver for my Radeon 9600 from 6.4 to 9.3 legacy driver. nothing has changed except that I don't get the invalid display type messages anymore.
I do not have problems with anything else except with Firefox, which crashes frequently, which cropped subsequent to the new install. This is a known problem with posts on the internet, although none of them has come up with a fix for my problem.
Does anyone have any ideas where to look?
