Ansar02 - Global Warming

Without another BG, we're pretty much sol. We'll have 9spt at pop 5 and we'll just have to dream about what might have been.

Btw, CommandoBob, did you have any interest in joining our team? :)
Interest? Oh, yes!

Time? Sadly, no.

In addition to RL I am at my limit in SGs. But I will lurk.

And to oogieboogie (What a great name! I can't think of way to say it and not smile.):

Welcome to the Forum!

[party] :band:

And just a heads up, be sure and read the stickied thread 'What is a Succession Game' and browse through some recent SG's to get a feel for how these things actually work in the real world.

And don't be afraid to post your ideas on how the game should go. Even if you know the question is a 'stupid' question, ask anyway. The answer may surprise you.

Also, be sure an use paragraphs when you post, especially if you ramble, as I tend to do. That makes what you say easier to read and easier to understand.

Thanks for the welcome, I've been playing through recent SG's and COTM's while reading the forums in order to refamiliarize myself with Civ3.

Tried playing a bit off your Jaguar Conquest save (among other SG's)...right up until I discovered I had settled my capital right on top of the iron. :(

Actually, we can keep our population half a point lower. Warrior build upon growth to 5. Then Settler from then on. But that doesn't make a significant difference, and it actually would be better to maintain a higher population (7, in this case) for the temporary commerce per cycle. Sounds good this way.

4) from each of 2 mined bonus grasslands we will have 2spt
...giving 8spt and a 5fpt surplus at pop 4

Welcome to the forums, Oogieboogie.

Actually, you have everything you need for a four-turn Settler factory, without another BG.

A Settler requires 30 shields, and you have 8 at size 4; 4 turns of growth will give you 32 shields at size 6.

right up until I discovered I had settled my capital right on top of the iron. :(

I'm curious; why does this dismay you?

The challenge was to win with only Jags. He couldn't disconnect iron and an early GA is inevitable. Psst GA, his only option would have been swords

4.5 to 6.5 pop would be 30 shields exactly wouldn't it?
9 + 11 + 10 without another BG, or am I counting wrong?

and thank you for correcting me on that one, didn't even look for 4.5 to 6.5 instead of 5 to 7

lurker's comment: You usually don't want to grow to 7 as it increases your pop boost to 40 instead of 20. If you have the city on "emphasize production" it will give you the extra shields when it grows and you can change the citizen to food. I haven't done the math though so this may not have been what Buce was referring to.

Uh, guys, I need your help...

It's 3900 BC and I just popped a goody hut. I got a settler. :)
Where should we put it?

(Btw, if you notice Washington, it has 3 cows. We also have company to our direct north.)

Th-th-three, cows?! Well that clearly allows us a 4 turn combo factory. Should we have a barracks in Washington then?

These are probably bad suggestions, but to get them out of the way, 2NE and 4SE look like good sites. The probable site though, will be 2E or S or SW. Well, wherever you settle, it'd be fine for me.

lurker's comment:

If you settle 2 E of the Settler's current position, you will have immediate access to 5 BG's, a mighty military pump; and on a river too....

2E is seems just too good to pass up IMHO

I agree with the above posters. While you could get gems, the BGs will help a lot (Emperor AI, along with Raging barbs, you'll need a mighty military to handle that)

lurker's comment: It looks like you have some purple neighbours to the North so you'll want military sooner than later anyway;)

Boston is kinda like a fort for when we attack the Portuguese.
The red dot is my suggestion for the next city (claims the dyes and another cow! :D ).

Summary
  • Met about 6 civs.
  • Discovered Warrior Code and Ceremonial Burial (goody hut).
  • Got 2 cities already up and running.
  • New York is soon to be our military pump.
  • We need more workers (didn't exactly work on that.)

We now need to work on a dotmap and plan on how to beat up the Portuguese.

Just a reminder: From now on, we play 10 turns each.

Just a note, you should post the roster for who's up next ;)

Also, you seem to have done an impressive job, it appears we'll be warring early if Portugal does the daily demand thing.
