Ansar02 - Global Warming

So that's why we didn't have as many archers as I thought we ought to have had. The builds were switched (or saved before the change to archers). Well, now we've got warriors, and a war.

The 2150BC SAVE

2550 BC Inherited Turn
Optimize a few towns to maximize growth and reduce wasted shields. New York now makes a Spearman. Science increased.

Inter: Rome asks us to leave their territory. I almost make a trade until I remember that we can't. Boston completes its warrior and starts a barracks. Philadelphia also completes a warrior for a worker.

2510 BC Nothing. Exploration to our NE and worker builds complete.

2470 BC Increase Lux tax and reduce science to prevent a Washington revolt. Emperor, right?

Inter: England asks us to leave their territory.

2430 BC Nothing.

2390 BC OUr settler factory will be ready (land-wise) in about 4 turns. Lux up for New York. IW in 12.

Inter: Granary complete in Washington with perfect, 1 turn before growth, timing. Barracks started so that we'll have vet warriors (to be upgraded, if possible). Just don't connect the iron. Aztecs tell us to leave.

2350 BC NE scouted out completely. Science reduced. IW in 11.

Inter: Worker in Philadelphia. Spearman started there.

2310 BC Keep Washington at 4 fpt to get growth in 3, but barracks in 4. This is a timing thing. With 3 turns to grow, and 4 to complete. The last three turns before size 7 will be for the settler.

Inter: New York Spearman-> Archer. English decide the Colossus is necessary for their empire and begin construction. Barbarian approaches New York, obviously, it's safe.

2270 BC Exploring warrior sent back to Washington for MP.

Inter: We watch the barbarian get defeated by the Portuguese.

2230 BC Washington readjusted. It will now be perfect for our combo factory. rax in 2. growth in 1.

Inter: Excellent, Portuguese troops approach New York from the south after barb hunting. Maybe they'll actually attack us.

2190 BC Lux tax increase.

Inter: Scandinavia wants us out. Portugal further enters our territory. Rax finished in Washington. Settler in 3.

2150 BC Shift tiles so that every town gets at least one bonus food source (except New York). The situation is good. I ask the Portuguese to leave and they declare war. That's okay. We get to lower our lux tax? Boston switches to a spearman. The Ports will so not get New York, but I'm sort of worried about Boston and its (future) regular spear. There is one warrior and one spear available for use in New York, like anybody would use them. But that's it.

End Notes. Treasury 3 +2 gpt. IW in 2 at 50% (the min). Lux at 20%. War with the Portuguese. The war shouldn't be hard at all. Since we have equal cities, Washington can continue to send settlers NE. The other three towns can focus on military. Lisbon is making the Colossus, so our greater than average sized towns will be able to take on a bunch of size 1's. The next player CAN'T lose. And we're supposed to be building up our military anyway, so this is a nice chance to get some vets and elites.

Looking nice, I believe it is time to start producing archers. A lot of them.

Who's next?

Nice work, Tribute. Our infrastructure is looking good, time to go beat on Portugal now.

No rush from me anyone. I'm working on a C3C HoF project of mine... trying to take out the overall 20k Culture fastest finish. I think I may finally have a shot at it with my latest attempt.

Sure, I have the save now. Let me review the dot map and I'll play tomorrow after work (5AM-4:30PM US MDT/GMT -6).

10 turns played, with some good things happening.

2150 BC
Inherited turn, changed Boston to Archer (from Spear) and Philly to Rax (from Spear)

IBT
NY Spear wins x2 vs. Port warriors, becoming elite
Boston builds reg. Archer

2110 BC (1)
Boston will keep building Archers, yes they're not vets, but for now we need some Archers.
Send Worker in NY out to mine, with protection from 2 Warriors. This will encourage Port to attack the elite Spear.
Chop forest on dies near Philly to speed Rax

IBT
IW finished, research the Wheel... we won't get the Republic SS so I decide to find the horsies. We'll need them for knights and if they're far away it may influence our strategic planning. Will follow with a push toward Monarchy for warmongering.
Iron is in 2 close spots... one between Wash and NY and one SE of Philly.

2070 BC (2)
zzzzz

2030 BC (3)
Wash. builds Settler which I send E toward the spot in ansar's dot map.

IBT
Attack finally takes place against elite Spears in NY and.... an MGL appears. Another Port Warrior dies in a follow-up attack as well.

1990 BC (4)
Build an army, no sense holding on to the MGL. The sooner we get a victorious army, the sooner we can think about building the HE. Since we'll be warring often, the more MGL's the better. I decide to load the two Warriors into the Army... they aren't going to up'd to Swords (no $$) and they aren't needed for MP duty, so I figure 2 of them in the army is the way to go. I keep the archers out of the army as they'll be looking to generate more MGL's in the war with Portugal.

1950 BC (5)
Atlanta founded, building Rax.

1910 BC (6)
zzzzz

1870 BC (7)
Port. Archer and Warrior lose to our Archer and Spears respectively.

1830 BC (8)
Chicago founded to the NE, buidling Rax.

1790 BC (9)
Somewhere around here the Wheel finished, researching Mys. NY is built on Horsies.

1750 BC (10)
Found a Port. Warrior for the Army to beat up. We now have a victorious army in the field.

Our military is up from 0 to 5 archers, 2 of them are vets. Portugal finished the Colossus for us, so it looks like we're ready to wipe them off the planet. A couple archers are moving toward Boston, but otherwise their first two waves did no damage to us.

The Save

The Pic

Okay, I realized that an SG ain't really my thing, so i'm sorry, but you can count me out.

Sorry Ansar =(

Me again? That's a little interesting. I have a feeling we can add more people to this SG if anyone else wants to join.

The picture shows us being a bit crowded. But I assume Atlanta and Chicago are our new towns. The next ones ought to be a bit more south, but I'll be claiming the iron first. Since my set will have 3 settlers!, I'll be able to settle by the iron, near the FP south (I hope it's okay since it's CXXXC to NY), and somewhere in Portugal (either Oporto or Lagos).

0. Switch New York to a spearman. Isn't is too bad that all our players play differently? (I'm a builder, others are fighters....)

Inter: A bunch of Aztec warriors come up next to our scouts, maybe they're barb hunting. Portugal invades with 2 archers, ending up right next to two of ours in Boston. We can now build the Heroic epic.

1. Washington Settler->Warrior. Lisbon finished the Colossus for us. One archer loses. The other archer and warrior win against the archers. 2/3 for both.

Settler sent towards the iron mountain.

Inter: A hidden barb horse runs out of English territory and kills one of our scouts. Sorry.

2. Washington Warrior->Settler. New York Spearman->Archer. Philadelphia Archer->Spearman. Troops begin approach towards Portugal.

Inter: Iron connected. Well, we already had one source then. Huh.

3. Troops next to Oporto. Scout approaches a Peninsula.

Inter: Archer approaches our archers. Ha.

4. Flawless archer victory. Troops amassed outside of Oporto. It will fall. Science lowered for mysticism.

Inter: Archer hidden in Oporto attacks one of ours and wins. Mysticism->Alphabet. I think I'd rather have catapults than Monarchy at this point.

5. Combo factory sort of broken with our iron. There's only one other cycle I can think of. Sword in 3. Worker in 1. Worker in 1. Settler in 3. However, I will try. Settler in 3. Spearman/Archer in 2. Settler in 3. (An 8 turn combo factory). It will still work. New York Archer->Spearman. Take Oporto, 29 gold, and a slave worker for the cost of 2 more archers. Seattle built. We now have 2 iron sources possible. Alphabet in 5 turns.

Inter: Archer approaches. Viking settler pair wants our NE spot. No way!

6. Troops approach Lagos.

Inter:

7. Philadelphia Spearman->Spearman. San Francisco built. Port Archer killed. Warrior blockade being set up.

Inter:

8. Washington Settler->Spearman. (2 with growth). New York Spearman->Swordsman. Invasion of Lagos Started.

Inter: Archer approaches us.

9. Lagos taken for 3 gold at the cost of one archer. Oh, and the wines are connected! Lux and science reduced for Alphabet.

Inter: Vikings and Romans enter our territory to go around our blockade. Alphabet->Mathematics. Porugal builds Sagres.

10. Washington Spearman->Settler. Its cultural influence expands! Boston Rax->Settler. Warrior movements. Blockade broken up. For the past few turns, our final scout has been running from barbarians because a camp popped up right next to it. So whatever you do, send the guy west. I look at our peace options and I am not happy. The Portuguese are way more advanced than us. Writing, HBR, and Poly. And they still have 4 towns. Science increased to 90% for Math in 9 with a -1 gpt deficit.

Notes: There is a new 8 turn cycle for a spear/archer and 2 settlers. Warrior settler pair should move NE or settle in place (I'd pick the first because of my builderness.) We could probably resettle in the Oporto and Lagos as well as SW of old Oporto for the gems, of course. And you know what I find very saddening? Portugal is second in score. And as usual, we have the least culture. Oh yeah, and I'm sorry with what I did to our army. Heh, now we only have 3 archers. But we've got more spearmen at least! In fact, I'd advocate a peace treaty with Portugal for techs, and a military buildup so that we can attack with force in 20 turns. It'd definitely work. And if that is the case, it would be better if Boston switched back to military.

Well, we can pointy stick Portugal.
I'm sure if we leave them with just Sagres, they wont be able to get very far. ;)

I don't know...we don't want Portugal getting back in the game. I'll see if there is a way to bring them down so they have no chance of getting back up. Then eliminate them, and after that, go for the Romans (they seem to be multiplying more each turnset :crazyeye:)

It shouldn't be too bad for us. We're multiplying too. If we're good, we can get all of Portugal and Rome and enter Monarchy before getting Feudalism. Of course, then we'd have to pointy stick Germany until we defeat them and catch up. And then take over the Vikings. Then the Aztecs and then the English by the Industrial Age.

Of course, all the while we're researching the bottom path of the tech tree and making contact with those on the other continent to lower our research costs.

Unfortunately, looking at how the land is now, there may be tons of land north of Portugal and north of England. Otherwise, there are 3 continents. ;)

Maybe Chicago should make a galley just to make sure.
