Any reason we are not allowed to access any other options in certain situations?

When an AI civ talks to us, we cannot access any other screens to see how the civ's relationships with others or any other options.

When an AI civ asks for peace treaty in middle of a war and offer a city, we cannot see the map where the city is located at.

Is this Firaxis intended to do so? I remember it's been like this since Civ 4...

I don't think that's intentional, just a bit sloppy design.

However, the AI peace offer is typically valid even if you turn it down, check the location of the city yourself, contact the AI and ask for the same settlement again.

At least infoaddict screens can be checked when the AI asks you to declare war.

This is one of my biggest gripes in the game. Player one ask me to declare was on Player two, I say no, then I get asked 9 more times during that turn, had I known everyone was going to war I would have pitched in, but once I say no to one leader I feel obligated to say no to everyone :(

Yea, in Civ 5, the Leader just appears with no warning, so you can`t even prepare! In reality you would at least have time to check the current political situation. In other words, the Player should have access to those screens when the Leader is talking to you.

It`s a big oversight which I have seen in so many `main stream` strategy games. The Devs always forget that we would like to check the current situation before deciding whether to go to war for a friend or not or whatever.

No leader would make a decision in such negotiations without checking the situation first either before or during the negotiation. Of course, you can bet the Civ5 AI knows EXACTLY HIS situation since his memory is perfect!
