My favorites were(are):
Third Reich (Avalon Hill)
The Civil War (Victory Games)
Star Fleet Battles (Amarillo Design Bureau)
War & Peace (AH)
1776 (AH)
The Arab-Isreali Wars (AH) Based on Squad Leader

Haven't seen Federation and Empire mentioned in a LONG time! That was a great game, but I could never get anyone else to play it. By the time it came out, I was out of college, where most of my Star Fleet Battles opponents were. I played one partial game against a friend, and had several attempts to play it solo, "role-playing" the opposing sides. I just always thought it was a great concept, even if some of the starbase battles were somewhat tedious.

Justus II did you know that F&E has had 5 expansions over the years? the last one released was in February. It was called Advanced Operations.:)

Wow! 5? I remember one called Total War, IIRC, that was going to have updated carrier and PF rules, I think. And also add the ISC (they were my favorite race to play in SFB!). Anyway, I haven't played in so long, I thought ADB actually was going out of business or something, or maybe it was Task Force Games. Anyway, obviously I've been out of the loop, I will have to look into it. Do they have a website active?

The expansions were,
1. Carrier War
2. Marine Assault
3. Special Operations
4. Advanced Operations
5. Combined Operations.
I have them all. The next one in line is the ISC War.

Here is the ADB official website. A little light on the F&E stuff. I mainly use it for product updates.:) It was Task Force Games that went belly up.

Justus II I apologize, i should have mentioned it was 2005 when the ISC War was planned on being released.

OK, thanks. I found the website, a little confusing, I wish there was a better description of the different expansions. I guess I will have to read through the discussion boards, looks like they are still active, and good to see some of the same names still involved (Steven Cole, Petrick). I have BOXES of SFB stuff in the garage, hundreds of photocopied SSDs and binders of rulebooks, erratta, etc., which I'm sure is now all hopelessly out of date. I will have to pull out the F&E stuff I have, I know I have some of the previews of the expansions that were in earlier Captains Logs, looks like that's still being published also.

(Great, now you got me started, like I have time for ANOTHER game!!! ) ;)

I like board games, but I hardly ever play because I know very few people who share that hobby!

My girlfriend doesn't like boardgames it :-(

I also like tabletop wargames, but not the really complicated ones. I haven't played much more than Warhammer Skirmish, though.

My two favourite board games are El Grande and StarQuest (or Space Crusades as it's known outside Europe, I think).

That's my problem. Whenever my brother visits me or I visit him, we'll spend several hours playing Advanced Squad Leader. Unfortunately, my brother lives 1000 miles/1600 km away, so we don't see each other too often.
