Any way to disable automatic scrolling ?

I'm playing my first game that reached the industrial era, on a huge map, and it suddenly became unplayable, crashing every two or three turns.
Now I've got units scattered around the map, and it happens mostly during the AI turns, when the game scroll to one edge of the map to the other to center on some caravel bombarding barbarians. But it also happens during my turn when I go from one unit to the other.
I tried changing all the settings to low, I tried playing in a window, I updated my drivers, it doesn't change anything. I think a better solution would be to force the camera to jump from one point to the next instead of sliding and trying (and failing) to reload all the tiles on the way.
Is it possible ? I did not find the option in game, but maybe there's some line in a config file I could change.

Yeah, that's an option in interface options. Look for "auto unit cycle" and disable it.

That doesn't disable the scrolling, that just make the game wait for me to click "next unit" to do it...

Ah sorry. Reading comprehension is lower before coffee.

I suggest you switch to strategic view in between turns. They'll run faster and you won't get crashes due to graphics not rendering fast enough. You will still get jerked all over the screen though.

I'll try stategic view between my turns.
But that's tedious and that doesn't solve the crashes on my turns.

Any other idea ? I tried windowed mode, that doesn't change much apparently.

I just always play in strategic mode anyway. I don't really care to see much of the nice 3d art. The turns are super-quick when playing like that, and once you get used to it, the whole game is more fun. :)

I do care much for 3D, unfortunately.

By the way, in strategic view the movements of the enemy stay offscreen... Is that normal, can I change it ?

I found some kind of solution. I'm not sure what it is, though.

I played a while, and the game did not crash for a dozen turns, without having to use the strategic view. I think the cause is that I saved twice or more per turn.
Either it follows murphy's law, and the game refuses to crash until there's a lot of time of play to be lost, or saving the game cleans the memory use. Or I'm mistaken.

You are aware of the autosave functionality, I guess?

I am. But it's not perfect for what I needed to do : it saves only once per turn max, and makes different saves, erasing the oldest. And sometimes I need to reload for other reasons.
