Any way to run civ without a soundcard?

My soundcard is broken, which seem to stop civ from starting. I get the startup dialog for a little while, but then nothing.

I tried setting AudioEnable = 0 in CivilizationIV.ini, but it didnt help.

Go to start>control panel>sound and audio devices> doubleclick your sound card, at the bottom dropdown menu select "do not use this device". May need to restart computer. Then load civ 4, click ok on all the sound error messages. Hope that helps.
