... they're bored already? I've been playing the game pretty solidly since the release. First week couldn't get enough of it, played for hours. Second week, flaws of the game really starting to bug me, but I'm still playing. Last few days... meh. Just can't get interested in it anymore. The AI civs are so interchangable that every game's the same.

Apologies for starting another whiner thread btw, seriously. I just wondered if anyone else was hitting the brick wall at the same point as me.

So you've been playing the game for weeks on end and you're getting bored.

Go do something else for a while?

I'm in exactly the same boat. When I started, I was playing constantly, but it was too easy. I started cranking up the difficulty and figured out that the only way to compete with the ever-expanding conquest AIs was do it myself. Played a few games that way, lost interest.

Until there is a major AI and/or balancing patch for gameplay, I think Civ5 has pretty much run it's course for me

Not bored but I don't feel like micromanaging my workers right now, I'm hoping for a mod or a patch to fix that so I can spend less time micro manage my workers and actually play the game.

I won on king, prince, and some lesser levels so far, on small maps. Been playing with firetuner2 for an hour or so. Just exploring the game and if I have time, read up the documentation on modding and fix that darn worker improvement algorithm, it's so annoying, it's not even funny, I don't want roads everywhere, and if you do build roads, go for shortest distance, don't chop down forest + jungles everywhere, argh.

Kinda bored, but not totally. I often find myself thinking, "Uh...now what", with that "now what" turnign into me declaring war on someone I never had any problems with before just for "something to do".

I really wanna open up a Civ4 game so I can make a good comparison between the two (not one based on memories).

Yes, I'm at exactly the same point. And I was on the so-called "fanboy" side of the release wars, but I have to admit that I'm no longer feeling very engaged by the game. I'm not gonna whine and cry or go on a tirade about it - it's a video game, after all - but when I have a couple hours free to do some gaming, I find myself playing games other than Civ5 now... which is not what I expected prior to the release. Given that the previous incarnations in the series would keep me engaged for months or even years, I'm sort of saddened that I'm already bored with Civ5.

Still hoping for patches, mods, and expansions to really help Civ5 live up to its potential, but for now I'm spending my gaming time elsewhere. (And that's not a protest or an ultimatum or anything silly like that. I'd love to be more fired up about Civ5, but I'm not gonna lie about it.)

Anyway, no, you're not alone. Right there at the same point. Not gonna argue over it or get in fights over differing experiences; just sharing my own, since it sounds like we're on the same page.

Yes, but I was like that for Civ4 as well, and its one of (if not the exclusive) my favorite games of all time. I just can't game at that intensity for that long and stay captivated. I need to rotate games.

I likely played my last game 3 days ago. I thought I'd do something radically different and try a small empire cultural victory.

Next-Next-Next-Next...

So non interactive. I've really tried. I started like 15 games or something, but only ever desired to win like 4 of them before I just couldn't.

In comparison I played a game of civ 4 in about 4 hours. The entire game. Space race. Each game of civ 5 has lasted about 6 hours, and I've never even researched to the future era yet.

The new strategic combat system just doesn't carry enough depth to make up for all that was taken out of the game. There just feels like there's so little to do in comparison to past Civ games. So yes, it is getting boring quickly. :(

For me the A.I. is just frustratingly bad coupled with the fact the game takes a long time in general makes for a bad combo.

For instance I played a game on King and it actually seemed like it might be a reasonable difficulty I proceed to battle with my neighbors and start gaining the upper hand on my continent when caravels come along and I start looking to see who else is out there. Turns out the other continent has 3 mentally ******** civs still in the stone age. Up until that point I thought the game may be entertaining.

So I up the diffuculty and try again, Now Germany is on the other continent and when I discover them they have destroyed all their local competition and have a land/population/tech on me. Alright this should be interesting. Nope they just sit there and as far as I can tell in the next 1000 years they didn't develop a single naval/air/anti-air unit. Lots of panzers and tanks on their large continent, but nothing else. So I colonize one unattractive corner of thier continent, put on 30 bomber + 1/2 dozen infrantry, declare war and let him destroy his entire army to take out 2 infantry.

The really annoying part is not just that the AI is bad, but it takes you 4 hours to find out its going to be bad each time.

It was never very fun. I kept starting new games, hoping something would somehow change, but it didn't.

So now I'm waiting for the first big patch, fingers crossed.

I played 40 hours in 2 weeks. At this point I wouldn't say I'm bored but a break is needed. I think I would feel this way about any game except an MMO where I would play that for 3 - 6 months before getting bored. The combat AI is really lacking in this though and I think if it gets patched my interest will pick up more.

Funny normally I would think 40 hours I got my money's worth out of a game, and in that regard I guess I did with Civ V, but expectations are higher. I know I'll play more again this month but I'm taking about a week to do other things and hope maybe at least a minor AI patch comes up before I start my next game. To be fair I was kind of the same way with Civ 4, play a ton then break from it for awhile, repeat.

This is exactly how I feel about it too...by the standards of other games, I'd expect maybe 60 hours of entertainment. But for Civ the standard has always been that much higher. I've got my 60 hours since release, but is Civ5 going to live up to past iterations? Not without some big changes as far as I'm concerned.

Well I am a complete opposite of you guys.

Civ5 was boring like <snip> to me when i started playing.

But one new game changed it all.

I basically turned off animated fighting and moving. And I was shocked. The game just turned out like the good old Civ for me. Turns take basically 100000 times faster, everything looks smooth, Just like good old Civ4.

and now I'm really in awe that I figured out what was missing for me in previouos CIV5 games.

civ 5 is a big let down. the AI is the worst of it. if civ 5 doesn't bring some real challenge to the table why would anyone call it a Civilization game. Call to Power or Revolution are better descriptors then civ 5. this game makes me want to cry.
