Anyone Interested in seeing a Final Fantasy Mod?

Hi,

I've been brainstorming for the better part of a week now, and with the great fantasy units that Aalgo has been pumping out lately, I've come up with this idea:

Final Fantasy Civ III (or FF Tactics Super Advanced:lol: )

First of all, it would not be based on any one FF game, but take elements from all of them, and emulate the FF "feel" as best as I can. It would be something like the Returner Final Fantasy Pen and Paper RPG , which is what I'm using for some of my concept Ideas. I'm in the process of gathering units and working up a tech tree right now, but any input you might have would be appreciated.;)

Some ideas include:

Civilizations: Zanarkand, Al Bhed (mid eastern cities), Shinra corporation, Wutai, Yevon, Alexandria (from FFIX), AVALANCHE (w/Cloud and the leader head;) ), and any others I can dig up from online FF sites/strat guides.

Techs/city Improvements:

Chemistry->preq for gunpowder, allows construction of alchemist's lab (doubles research)

Gunpowder: allows Creation of chemist/gunner units (it will be either one or the other the difference woud be that the chemist would use exploding potions to bombard enemy units) as well as seige cannon

Mako Reactor: similar effects to factory, but with (possibly) more pollution, requires Mako/Materia tech (not sure which name I'll use for the tech)

Units/Resources:

Replace Horse w/Chocobo (if one of you modeling types could make a few choco-knights/ chocobo chariots I'd be extremely grateful), req for making chocobo rider/knight/cavalry (note rider->knight->cavalry, like the regular Civ III units)

Already have plans to use Aalgo's sky shark as the Airship unit (requires Mako tech and materia resource)

Materia: resource found in mountains, hills, volcanos, forests, jungles, and plains. Required to build Airships, Shinra UU's, and a few other more advanced units

Shinra UU's: SOLDIER 3rd, SOLDIER 2nd, and SOLDIER 1st. (again, going to have to beg/borrow animations for these units) The anims would be the same, except that the S-3 would have a blue uniform, S-2 would have a red uniform, and the S-1 would have a purple uniform. No need for civ spec colors, since it's a Shinra only unit.

Oh, and some Ideas for Wonders/small wonders:

Great Wonder, Zanarkand Stadium; effect: puts a blitzball court in every city on the same continent.

Small wonder (see attached wonder splash preview), Shinra No. 26: required for the space race vidtory (be the first Civ to build an Inter-steller colony ship).

Well, comments, criticism, flames, kicks to the face, etc are welcome :)
 
I would love a final fantasy mod. I'm all for it. The only thing we need is some units that a final fantasy mod should have, like chocobos and moogles.

As I said, I support a mod like this 100%.:)
 
I've already got some of the bare bones started, like generating the proper folders and .biq files. I'm renaming the barbarian tribes to support the units I'll be using (embryodead's Dire wolf and Lowland Giant and Aaglo's Ghost Ship), and I'll probably start on the resources.pcx tomorrow (add stuff like dwarven citadel strategic resource for building dwarven units, chocobos, materia, etc. Once I get some more stuff done, I'll post an update (I'd have had more finished, had I not been posting the finished versinof my Tweaked Out Civ III mod).
 
I think I've said in some of your graphix threads that I'm interested in a FF mod.
 
Thanks, guys, I've been working hard on the mod, and for a mere 1 week's work, I think it's progressing rather well. I still need to organize the Tech tree, and polish the Civilopedia entries for the resources, but I HAVE got all the resources done.

@Grandraem: Well, I've added a chocobo resource to replace the horses (see preview), and updated the Civilopedia entry. All I need now are some Chocobo units. Although I have a 3D animation program (Bryce 5), it's inorganic object creation and editing is quite limited (but Bryce's terrain, landscaping, and archietectural capabilities are unbelievable!!), but I could import and animate a 3d chocobo from another source (3d Studio Max, Maya, etc). The trouble is finding such a model for free. :wallbash:

@Tjedge1: Where do you think all those building/wonder/advisor gfx are going?;) I still think it's kinda funny having Tifa tell me to "build more cities," or Sephiroth telling me that our army is weak compared to so and so:lol: . Well, anyways, I'll try to get some more stuff done/posted tomorrow:hammer: .

Yes a good civilopedia would help a lot since I haven't played FF since the 7th one. I never got a PS2. :sad:
 
I'm working on the Civilopedia entries right now, and it's a bit messy. Hopefully I'll have it straightened out shortly. I'll make them as detailed as possible (for instance, a modified version of the description I gave in my Blitzball court thread is what will most likely go in the ol' civilopedia). Well, I gotta get back to editing. I kinda slept through most of the evening, because the friggin PRT (semi-annual Navy physical fitness test) wore me out, and I've got lost time to make up.:hammer: :whipped:
