Anyone know if it is possible to surrender?

Much like how Civ 4 handled losing a war, you could capitulate and still be playing the game.

Does anyone know if this is still possible or if you are just now eliminated? Do puppet states replace this?

No to all that.

No, you can't surrender (you actually can't capitulate in Civ4, only the AI could). If you lose the war completely, you lose the game (although just being crippled would be bad enough). That being said, puppet cities doesn't replace the previous vassal mechanic. Puppet cities are conquered cities, they just give you less control and less penalties. Not the same thing as the vassal system, which left the other player in charge.

I play a lot of multiplayer...and A LOT of Civ 4 Multiplayer.....a player can capitulate. So I know you're dead wrong on that.

Anyone know if the vassal mechanic is in Civ 5?

OK, I meant singleplayer. Sorry about that.

But there is no vassal mechanic in Civ5 as far as one can tell from all the info released.

It would be sick if you could capitulate, then revolt and have a civil war. THat would make for an interesting play.
Plus, it would allow for civil war, which so many people have been asking for. :crazyeye:

No worries :) Just trying to see as a whole bunch of us in Northern Virginia are begging for the question to be answered (as it changes our playstyle and ladder system).

That would be very fun :) And another reason I have the question ^.^

Yeah puppet state replace that in a way (I know in real life it's not the same as a vassal.).

There is no surrender but if a player take back a city that was taken from you in the first place... He have the choice to give it back to you wich put your civilization back into the game (I don't know if a player will be able to play again in multiplayer but I can't see way not... would be stupid to have an AI take over if the player was still in the game as a spectator.).

The reason why a player would give you back your city, is because after that you are forced to vote for him when the United nation is build.

I hadn't looked into this puppet thing much, but that's a great addition. Pretty historically accurate, too, at least as Civ mechanics go. I mean, you wouldn't want a conquered city to create its own army, now would you? I think I might use the heck out of that feature.

I plan to abuse this quite a bit >:) Just want to know how it works so I can tell the others :)

When you conquer a city, you can annex it (like in old games), but your civ will be hit with a huge unhappiness penalty related to the new people in the city being unhappy. You could also raze the city to the ground so there's nothing left.

Finally, you can also create a puppet city. This city will give you gold, science, culture, etc, and control of the territory around it (it becomes one of your cities, more or less), but only minimal unhappiness penalties. As a consequence, you have no control over what it builds and it'll never build military units.

True but, the issue comes with the puppet state in the fact that another civ can liberate it and return the civilization to the game (if it happens to be the only one on the map for it).

I would be surprised if that applies to multiplayer, however. If your last city is gone, I doubt they expect the player to be "on call" to return if someone happens to liberate the city later.

No it wouldn't. There would be no point in conquest if the cities just revolted. If would be very frustrating for the player to just lose cities with little or no control or say whatsoever. IF you don't want to lose your cities in the first place, defend them or take them back.

It's not even out yet and you've already given up? SHAME!

Like in the gameplay seen the AI will give you some peacy treaty offers with heavy demands, which could be seen as surrendering to them?
