So I'm new to civ 5 and have read some of the forums and you guys say its good to steal workers from city states if you can. So I'm exploring on my scout that was upgraded to an archer and find a new city state with a worker and think perfect lets steal it. I right click the worker and it says do you want to declare war. I click yes and proceded to attack the worker instead of move on it.

Is there anyway to turn off auto attacking workers/settlers so that if I right click on them I move on them instead of attack?

nope, instead use the menu to the left for actions, click on the movement icon instead of the default range attack, then click on the worker, and your archer moves and captures the worker.

Oooooh - thanks for that! I always assumed it couldn't be done with a ranged unit.

I tend to use hotkeys to do it. B for Range Attack and M for Move, that way I can be sure I don't right-click the wrong spot and zerg my archers next to some units I was trying to shoot or accidentally shoot a civilian I wanted to capture (also have programmable buttons on my G19 so I have both easily accessible).

Although I seldom capture civilians (especially missionaries), since I tend to have my worker situation in hand and they give xp for shooting them so easy way to level up my archers....
