Hey folks,

Sorry for my question might being stupid, but I couldn't find an answer anywhere.
I just bought CivIV over the App Store for my Mac (Lion). It runs nice and smothly. As I know Civ4 already from my time with a windows PC some years ago, I would like to install some mods. But I couldn't find any Civilization/Mods/ folder or any Civilization folder at all. There seems to be nothing ,but the Civilization IV.app in applications.
I looked in all folders normally listed in this context: library/application support/, user/documents/ and in the appliciation folder. A search wouldn't reveal any folder, either.
Does this mean the App Store version of Civ IV is not modable? That would be a shame... Or did I miss something? (which might be a shame for me rather ;))

Thanks for any help!

Hi, welcome :wavey:

I don't have Civ4 from the App Store, but if it's like the Colonization package, then the stuff that's normally in the /Applications/ folder will be stashed away in the application bundle. Right click the application "file" and select "Show Package Contents". This will open a listing of what's inside. Navigate to a folder containing an Assets folder. Here is a listing of the package contents dow to that level in Colonization:

/Applications/Civilization IV Colonization.app/Contents

/Applications/Civilization IV Colonization.app/Contents/Colonization Data
/Applications/Civilization IV Colonization.app/Contents/Colonization Data/Assets
/Applications/Civilization IV Colonization.app/Contents/Colonization Data/PublicMaps
/Applications/Civilization IV Colonization.app/Contents/Colonization Data/Resource
/Applications/Civilization IV Colonization.app/Contents/Colonization Data/Shaders

You may find a Mods folder in there for Civ4 - there isn't one for Colonization.

Note also that well structured mods should work just as well if you put them in your user-level /Civilization 4/MODS/ folder. That may be in ~/Documents/ or in ~/Library/Application Support/. You get to the hidden ~/Library/ folder in Lion by Alt-clicking on the Go menu in Finder.

Hi,

I got the same version recently, and I have a *very* similar problem. I want to edit my WorldBuilder saves with TextEdit and/or share them, but I can't even find the folder where they're saved in. I've looked all over the package contents and Documents.

Thanks in advance,
Medi

I don't have the AppStore version, and I can't even buy and install it without deleting my existing copy. So all I can say is that your WorldBuilder saves should be in one of two places, depending on how the AppStore version is set up:

You are looking for your user data, so look in your ~/Documents folder, or in your ~/Library/Application Support/ folder, NOT in the package. If you've already looked in ~/Documents/, then chances are it's in ~/Library/Application Support/.

On Lion, Alt-click on the Finder's Go menu to get into your ~/Library/ folder.

In one of these locations, you should find a user data folder - probably called Civilization IV. Inside that folder you should have a Saves folder, and that will contain subfolders for Single player, Multi-player and WorldBuilder saves.
