An idea I had was that when a enemy civilization falls, in the industrial age you can go to the ruins of the fallen civilization's capital and with a worker unit, begin a archaeological dig. This will provide you with both the civilizations culture, and the ability to use any special units or buildings that come from this civilization(including ones that the civilization might not have discovered yet) as long as the archaeological dig site is still there. Archaeological dig sites also provide you with :science:.

Strangely enough I have already collected art (by Kathy) for just this sort of thing. It would have to be an improvement not a unit action since improvements take time whereas actions happen in that turn. The main bit I have not worked out is how to get the AI to consider it a good thing to do.

Perhaps make it so that the "Archaeological Dig Site" improvement gives a large bonus to tile yields. Then have some Python so that as soon as the improvement is finished constructing, it removes the improvement and gives whatever effects you actually want it to do.

I mentioned it before.
Giving an improvement high yields does not make the AI love to build it.
This is why Terraform is a failure, unless you can prove it otherwise.
Thus, it is not going to do this any good either.

They lately found a new Neanderthal Campsite while digging for a Garage in Den Bosch, What i basically am saying with this is that you should have a chance of finding an important site when working on tiles, but like platyping already said AI Weights will be important and getting it set up right so it also makes sense and doesn't go Spam ;)

I was thinking How about making it Event based? Event places tile improvement Digsite that cannot be changed unless the Second event fires Digsite Emptied which either changes the improvement to Digpit or just removes it completely

If you can enable Natural Wonders to appear at certain Technologies, you can make Archaeological Sites appear at Archaeology.
