so you have trade embargo/alliance agreements with civ B against civ A. then you conquer civ A and wipe them out. does rep hit take place? like CivB insisted you broke deals because CivA is gone and the deals, consequentially, disappeared 'unfinished'.

because it seems to happen to me.:(

I have a somewhat related question. If your ally makes peace with the enemy before 20 turns are up, are you able to also make peace without taking a rep hit? More often than not, my allies make peace with our enemy and my objectives are met before the 20 turns are up. With war weariness kicking in, I would like to be sure I could at that point bail out without taking a rep hit.

I hate when my "allies" declare peace the next turn. i once paid the English a kings ransom to join me against the french. The next turn, they declare a cease fire and yet the french still wont even talk to me. If the enemy wont talk to me for x-number of turns, then that rule should be applied to the other AIs also.

YOU get a rep hit, but THEY don't :(

they do get a rep hit. this happened to me and the advisor who accompanies you in any trade negotiations said something like "Xerxes is a known cheat and liar..." This only happened after Persia made peace with a common enemy of ours and broke our alliance.

The only problem with rep hits is the AI's dont seem to take into account there reps when dealing with other AI's. Reputation seems to me atleast to only exist between the player and the AI's.

Personally i don't even bother with my rep in my personal games anymore.. I'm way to much of a warmonger to care, cause if i want something from an AI .. i don't trade for it.. i just take it from them. :D

Beware me when MP comes out.. My premise for these games is, and always will be.. Keeps your friends close.. but your enemies closer.

phoenix explained what i meant (as usual): the AI gets a hit with your advisor - but you know when you're cheated anyways, and what the IA did to the AI - well...... and AIs aren't influenced by rep unless it's your rep....

On the same topic, I was playing a game last night where I had an ongoing deal with another civ, trading them iron for techs. The civ I was trading with was wiped out by a different one, which gave me control of my iron back again. But to my shock, no other civ would ever deal with me again; they thought that I had broken a deal! Obviously this was a bug in the game, but now it's something I have to look out for and avoid. Nice to know that if you're trading with a civ that gets killed, YOU get blamed for breaking the trade. :o

What's even nicer is knowing that things like this will probably not get fixed since the recent patch is supposed to be final. Patches are governed by economics, not existing bugs.

Aren't you a bit angry, Ripley ? They improved quite a lot of bugs, in this FREE patch.

Where's the anger? I am merely pointing out a likely scenario.

By the way, I don't consider the patches to be free at all. I paid for them when I bought the game. They release it now, finished or not, and patch it later. But this is off topic anyway ...

Are you sure of this Sulla? because if this is true then I can very well assume that all trades that are interrupted because a civ was destroyed will deal rep hits to whoever has any deals with or against that civ. It is quite easy to miss out on this little detail. I think I'm right then. (Taking note that I was very very careful with my reputation and that I did not tarnish it unnecessarily.)

nope, deals that are useless end w/o rep hit

I need proof or corroborative statements from others. Just a simple statement won't suffice for me. My suspicions still hold.:(

Let's just hope that this isn't the last patch. But maybe the next patch will come from PTW, i don't know.

I do think someone, or me, should confirm that by eliminating a civ an alliance partner will feel you have broken a deal. I suspect it does.
