look behind you...
for the past three times I've played, about 20 minutes into the game, it crashes with out warning and goes to the main desktop. This last time it crashed, the whole screen alignment got messed up and every other 20-30 pixels horizontally got shifted to the left.

I have a Radeon X600 card, Pentium 4 2.8 GHz processor, and 1 GB of RAM. I'm running CIV at all medium settings, if you need to know that.

thanks for help

New patch should come out soon but in meantime you could try turning Antialising to zero in options.. Heard it helped reduce crashes for a few here.

antialiasing is already at zero....

I have the same card, X600, using an Athlon 4000+, and am having the very same problem.

It's becoming annoying, having to save at the beginning of each turn and at the end of each turn -- but it's the only way to recover without having to move all my units and fight the same battles each time.

I get to a certain area of map explored and blammo, it quits.

Radeon 9600, XP, 1Gb RAM, 4 Gb swap, not helpful.

I've the same problem, but only when playing maps latger than standard. On a Huge Map the game crashed every second turn after about 1600. Playing on a standard map I only crashed once (up until "Game Over").

I know that this is not very satifsfying but until a patch is released this might be a work-around.

Same problem, running an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2,01 GHz, NIVIDIA GeForce 6200 SE, 1 GB DDR-RAM, C-Media AC97 sound onboard, all new drivers installed, details set to "high" (it runs smoothly), but zero antialiasing.

I made a habit of saving a lot, but with Civ it's always like "one more turn", and having forgotten to save for half an hour and then seeing it crash is very annoying. I desperately want a patch!

oooookkkkkaaayyy, anybody have any possible way to fix this without changing to smaller maps?

I Have to join the club.....extremely annoying, but I do like the fact that I'm not alone.....! The comp. is a Laptop P4 3.2, 1gb, radeon X600.....

It started to freak out around 13-1400AC, and now it "fuc*s up* after only a few turns. Sometimes the music starts to "loop", like a broke CD, and then it jumps back to the wird looking desktop, And sometimes it just quits and jumps to the desktop(without the musicloopingthing), that looks weird with colours and ****.

Darn....

...unfortunately this time it's me.
Same CTDs on my machine (Intel 3.4 GHz, 1GB, X700, SB Audigy 2ZS). Eagerly waiting for that patch promised by 2k today for the next few days after having tried many of those fixes proposed in other sections here...

Hi,

My system - ATI Radeon 9600XT, Intel P4 3.2 Ghz, 1GB Ram, 2x200GB SATA HDs.

I was having this problem too - after 2000AD I was getting about 5 mins of play before <blink>, I was back at the desktop. This had gotten progressively worse as I progressed on a Standard size game. After recovering from my tantrum I tried a few things and performance was improved, along with no more crashes (Over 3 hours now, as opposed to every 5 mins).

Here's what I have got it down to so far, please let me know if this works for you:

Follow the instructions for the latest ATI drivers (if you did that to get it working, do not worry, you don't need to do it again).

Before loading the game, hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE and click 'Task Manager' followed by the 'Process' Tab.

Click the process named CLI.EXE and select 'End Process' (I had two instances of it running and killed them both). Then click the process ati2evxx.exe (Also two instances)

When I restarted the game, there was a noticeable performace increase (esp in combat) and it hasn't crashed yet. I hope this works for someone else out there!!

Cheers,

Pete :)
