Armageddon:
According to the Bible it’s the battle where God finally comes in
and takes over the world and rules it the way it should have
been ruled all along. The reason it’s called Armageddon is
because it in a place called the valley of Megiddo is modern day
Israel. Armageddon means mount of Megiddo in Hebrew

You are probably all aware of the following situation:
You have selected : "C'mon let me play a few more turns" after a
succesfull game :king: .
The year is 2146
Map: Supergiga 338x338
You have conquered everything apart from a small French city
which occupies a tundra square.
The said city is surrounded by 7 SoD of 6 MA and 2 MI each.
You have RoP with the French
The 8th square is coastal
You have 36 Privateers there just in case they try to escape
Behind the Privateers is an assortment of Battleships, Aegis
Cruisers(detect invisible) and loaded Nuclear Submarines(just in
case).
Not forgetting the Airfield with 50 (modded) Spetnaz
(airdrop,blitz,all terrain as roads, 26/14/9).
According to your spy the French army consists from 1 worker
and the City is building Warrior which will be ready in 40 turns
You are toying with the idea to nuke them (again) but you have
19t. left on the RoP and you dont want a rep hit at this stage.

Where do you go from here?
In civ3 the answer is simple:go to bed, kiss your
Boyfriend/girlfried/son/grandmother with guilt stay half asleep
for 30 minutes and then go to the office/morgue/primary with
this sad feeling that something is missing...

ALL THAT CAN CHANGE IN CIV4!
And here's how:
Armageddon from Outer Space (AfOS) will be a random event.
It will be triggered by conditions similar to the
afforementioned.
It will include the landing of an assortment of spaceships all
over your empire.
Black spaceships.
Forth will issue a vast number of beefed-up barbarian
warriors(22/14/3, all terrain as roads) Keshic nomads(23/8/6,
blitz) and barbarian Spearmen(0/18/1, immobile) on all
mountains.
They will pillage and burn(with the new 3D graphics pillage will
be awesome).
They will invade cities and destroy Offshore platforms, or in the
absence of O.P. Mass Transit Systems.
Then with the remaining moves they will run and hide in the
mountains (with the fortified spearmen  ).
During AfOS you will not be able to save or quit the game.
AfOS will terminate only when: you kill all the Spearmen  , you
repair all the R.R. and you rebuild(despot rush){ oh I forgot that
AfOS change your Gov. to despotism immediately} all the O.P.
and M.T.S. you lost.

WAY TO GO FIRAXIS!!!

any contribuitions?

Its an interesting idea, its something that could appear in the "cheat" menu as an optional extra to make the game a bit more challenging. Would be even more interesting if you could have an Armageddon in the earlier ages with the computer civs still alive so that it becomes a race to stay alive.

It would be like the Olympic Games ...No fighting until we defeat the common enemy

Oh I don't know, the AI probably wouldn't fight but it might be interesting to put together a mercenary army that went around accidentally attacking the AI... :mischief:

should I change the title to Armageddon:mercenaries from hell ? would it sell more?...lol

I don't know since your idea is similar to adding major disasters to Sim City. There could be a whole range of disasters such as a world wide earthquake where improvements anre demolished, terrain made unworkable, cities destroyed etc. A plague event where it starts in several cities and will have a random chance of spreading which would be increased by unit movements.

Of course these would all be optional so that if people wanted to play a serious game they wouldn't be interrupted b huge game changing events.

Do I understand your premise correctly? As I read the situation, God intervenes to save the French??

I didn't realize that God would use Keshiks and barbarian warriors. I'll have to go back and reread those passages. ;)

You could say it was God or you could just blame it on bad timing that the aliens had to arrive when they did...

The French was just an exemple because(IDONNOWHY)in my games dear Joan of Arc gets usually cornered somewhere by more aggressive civs...ergo god rather saves the player from post-victory depression
On the units side I used the Spearman because of the malevolent nature with which it figures in most players subconsious(especially when fortified in a mountain(square), the warrior and Keshic for their aggrssive look....

IMHO playing civ at 07:30 is alwwys good timing..lol

Do you seriously imply that I ...GARBARSARDAR Jr... am not serious....?
no ,I agree but I would like to see something less impersonal then earthquakes...

I for one would never imply that you are not serious. However, I might imply something about your employment- looking at your public profile, it shows over 15 posts per day. How do you do it??

Just submitted my PhD thesis-in order to do that I destroyed my CIV cd's- and until Amazon(grrrrrrr) delivers the new ones I lurk in the forums....

Understood. Destroying civ CDs could be considered as heresy, but because of their addictive properties I can understand the need to remove any temptation. I had to put my Civ I floppy discs out of reach until I finished my Logistics Master's thesis- 96 pages on training in inventory management practices, a fascinating piece of shelfware.
Glad to have you in the forums, enjoy your lurking...

I just uninstall games when they are taking up all my time... Sadly I can't uninstall CFC... Oh and 15 posts a day is nothing... :p

Earthquakes were just another example event that you could chose to have since it would be a more one off event as once it occurs you don't have to deal with deadly units wandering around.

Oh and 15 posts a day is nothing
good... I felt like a monster for a moment (and that is post 99...lol)

I don't like the idea. An out of space attack has never occured, as far as we know, in history.

:) Its not meant to be realistic, view it as optional challenge that can be activated to test your abilities in a new setting.
