So I am playing at warlord level and no matter what I do I cannot win a game. I have resigned myself to the realization that "Suckwad" has a picture of me next to it in the Urban Dictionary! If I produce cities at the rate the AI does, then I overtax resources and end up losing valuable research percentage points. If I underproduce cities then I am attacked relentlessly by AI Civs and barbarians. The Civ that usually wins (space race) inevitably refuses to be more than just cautious with me and only involves itself in wars late game when it is obvious that they are far enough ahead in research to win. At least I am completing a game now but to be compared to Dan Quayle in the end is not only insulting but disheartening. :(

Well, what speed do you play at? Generally, the slower the speed, the easier it is.

I can give some generic helps as well:

Download the BUG mod.

In the early game, have one city specialize in military unit production (in a region with a balance of :hammer: and :food:), one city specialize in research, and one specialize in wealth (both of these in regions with lots of :food: and :commerce:).

Download the BUG mod.

Don't build every single building in a city; make sure you only build what's needed in a city (barracks for a military city, market for a gold city, library for a research city, etc.).

And most importantly, download the BUG mod.

Spoiler :
Lucky Sevens post, yay. :king:

My slider very often hits 10% early in the game. It not the percentage that counts but the beakers that make or break you. run specialists or Cottage early.

Use slavery to produce, those early hammers are great if you have the food to rebuild.

Micromanagement can be a pain but it works better if you do not automate worker and cities, check on them periodically to make sure they are doing what you want them to.

Focus on economic techs Alphabet, Currency, Code of Law, Civil Service, they make good trade bait too

Specialize cities, focus on food and production or commerce, not all three.

Build an army. Even the most peaceful civs will attack you if you don't have any defenses.

Diplomacy is key.
Join a side, make friends and ostracize those you want to attack.
Use religion to keep the other leaders happy. sticking to Taoism that you founded despite the whole world being hindu will only make everyone hate you.

The strategy forum is great for tips and walkthroughs. But these rules above got me to emperor.

Thanks for the advice. This was more of a humorous rant thread than anything else, as I am sure I would figure it out sooner or later (unfortunately with my age addled brain it was likely to be later). :D;)
