everybody tried it either before or during a war so why not impliment it into an improved espionage system? franz ferdinand got shot n started a world war, we tried to assasinate hitler many times duing the war etc. if succesful maybe the leader could change to another well known leader and would be more/less favourable.citizens may riot depending on who/why they assasinated.what d'ya think?

Good thought but how could the AI assainate you?????? zThey couldnt otherwise you wouldn't play figure that out and its a good idea

it says ur killed and u enter ur new name. all scores and diplomatic relations are reset. i dunno lol u could hav offered a suggestion too

I say only govs that have a single leader and uncertain/contestable lines of succession should be vulnerable, forex despotism, monarchy. The result should be to force the target into anarchy for a short period.

But we are still missing the point what can the AI do to you. My soultion, In a Democracy or Republic an election would happen and you would change your name. Under a Monarchy you would have one turn of Anarchy and then you would add say Colonel you would add on Colonel II. As for other goverments total anarchy for five turns and then a total new name and what not.

My ideas on this the aftermath of an assasin:
Despotism:
With the death of their leader, the nation decends into chaos untill a new leader can emmerge.
Meaning: Forced anarchy for X turns, must form a despotism or Monarchy.
Monarchy:
Similar to depotism but with shorted transition (because yout Heir can take the throne, but still requires time to establish order)
Republic:
The sennate Appoints a new leader. 1 Turn anarchy "transition" phase. Increased risk of culture flip due to independant governing of City-States.
Demo:
Same as republic, but no flip risk, and a Random % of citizens (0-50%) will become unhappy for the next few turns because they voted for the other party.
Commie:
Not to sure on this one. Perhaps a smooth transition with a fixed chance that the new leader will betray your communist Ideals (Tranforms into Despot or Facist)
Facism:
Falls appart for a few turns, but is then re-established as a new Facist regime. Fixed chance that a % of your army not in cities will become part of a "Rebel" AI faction
(Rogue commander attempting to stage a coup at take the seat of power)

These are all just Ideas though, It wuold realy depend on how they set up the Governments in Civ4.(I see this being used as a balancing tool by giving overal "better" governments a higher penalty if you are assasinated) Espionage missions could include both deploying assasins, and training a secret service to protect yourself from other nations. With the effectivness of both increasing over time, and with the completion of certain small wonders like "Secret Service" or "Black Ops Accademy." Certain Civs could also have access to slightly superior assasins. (I.e. the Japaneese reciving Ninjas during the middle ages, but not in any other.)

This seems too easy to me. Why would you not try assassinating people all the time? Especially if you are already at war.

Severe rep hits. It would also be far more difficult to attack a well defended leader during a war (When it is harder to slip your assasins past the heavily-guarded border)

why do they not do this all the time in real life? simply because it uses a hell of alot of resources and will most probably expose your spy or even your whole network of spies. if a mission was failed, it would also make the civs citizens happy and hyped i suppose a kinda golden age as they believe their leader is invincible.

And what if you don't care about rep hits? Once I go for all out war I really don't care what my enemies think of me. Under that type of government my people wouldn't care either. They'd probably think better of me for trying even if I failed.

We've had this idea before in a bunch of different forms. To me it kinda takes a lot outta the game. You could always play regicide now and just kill the leader.
