Ok, so this worked for me. I'm using win XP with SP2 on a laptop and have a ATI Mobility Radeon 9000.

They keep telling you to update your driver right? But you can't get any updated drivers from ATI. You either get the message no video card found or that one INF error when you're installing the driver/catalyst.

This is what you need to do!

Download the tool from http://www.driverheaven.net/patje

Download the driver/catalyst from ATI https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=293

When you have downloaded the driver/catalyst it will try to install and it will fail with that one INF error. No worries, just let it fail.

Now go use that tool from patje, directions are on his site.

Restart your computer

Play!

Note: - I have downloaded all possible ATI drivers from their site (at least three different depending on what options you choose after win xp). I used one with the tool and it worked, I don't know which one.

So there, hope this can help you out! I spend a week searching for a solution so please forgive me, I'm gonna check now if I see landtiles etc.. At least it got me past the no startup movie/menu bug.

EDIT a few hours later: EUREKA!!! No bugs in sight (yet)! Give this fix a try ppl

Yes it worked for my radeon x300 also!
I downloaded my previous driver from:
http://www.station-drivers.com/page/atidriv mobility.htm
But i prefer installing drivers i downloaded from ati.com. Superb tool.
Is there any way i can check that the driver has been properly installed and running as it should?

Hey,

thank you for this idea, now the game at least runs again on my IBM R51 with mobility Radeon 9000.

But unfortunately I have quite a number of tiles missing and the game is by far less fun this way :(

Also windows shows some queer behavior: scrolling in firefox and in the windows explorer became very slow and you somehow see the new screen being bulid from top to bottom or vica versa.

Is there any known solution for this problem?

Greetings

Jochen

i tried this but i kept getting the memory error so i reinstalled the ATI mobility 9000 driver from the dell website (im running 600m) and in the control / options stuff in desktop properties i turned everything down to best preformance and i turned off movies and set graphics setting on civ4 to low and it works
