Attack/Defense

I noticed even when attacking you should send a few defencive units with them, always sofen up a city if posible, also there is a defencive bonus for diffrent types of terrain, like mountins which has what i beleave is a 200% defence bonus, improvements like radar also increases it can be smart to attack but let them charge at you in a picked battle area. I remember i attacked a motropolis and it was the Egypian capital with 2.5 times their number, all modern armor, they were defending with mec infentry and i didnt bomb them that much. I got woped, i had just 2 eliet armors left both with 1 heath and was forced to end the war just 1 step away from their capital.

I beleave most tarrain like plains give just a 5% bonus and others like 10-15%, i think mountins and jungle give the most defence bonus, followed by hills.

all terrains besides sea and ocean provide at least 10% defense bonus (even coast has 10% defense...but sea and ocean have none.)

Really? well, I wonder what made me think it didn't...:hmm:

Maybe that oceans and sea give less food and stuff than coast:confused: ? Frankly, is a certain piece of ocean going to have some cover, or is a grassland going to have grass so tall that entire legions of men can hide unnoticed in them? No. That 10% def bonus is really annoying in the later ages, when up to 1.8 def can be added (that's no small number).

anyways its my point if you got better defenders than offenders try to trick them into attacking you in a good defencive terrain, its all about picking the place of battle, if your on the offencive try a flat plan if on the defencive head for the hills.

sometimes they will attack.
e.g. : if You have a town in their territory, AI will eventually kill even the strongest army, simply by numbers.
BUT in the open field AI calculates chances 1 on 1.

I remember when first starting out (my first game) I was puzzled by my spearmen's inability to win when attacking my rival's cities. I was used to the Age of Kings idea of spearmen as being cheap infantry units -- not the case in Civ3. I had that same problem when I attacked with my Jaguar Warriors. Happily, I learned my lesson after only one or two battles. I still have a screenshot of my spearmen massing outside of a Iroqious city, though.
