in the civilopedia it says you can attack other fighter planes/jets, but how do you actually do it?

The best way i have found is to come high out of the sun so they cant see you. Youre gonna want to roll in and open up with guns at about 100M....that should get them flaming. The pilot might bail so circle back around and kill him.

I think you can't directly. What you can do is set the planes on the intercept mission. They will automatically attack aircraft that come within range of their city or fort. They can defend a large area, especially if given the range promotions.

You either set them on interception (fortify=same thing, less flashy?) and wait for them to strike (intercept has a radius around your city, bait them with units) or you just use your planes against a city that has them. Usually what I do against a city I'm about to attack is let my Fighters go first: they'll usually fight against the enemy fighters, then I send the Bombers, which have less chance to intercept, but sometimes they do if there are still fighters around. The AI doesn't usually go crazy with Fighters, like having 4 of them at a time, but 2 Jet Fighters can take down or cripple your entire Bomber force if you lose the Advanced Flight race.

BTW, promote your planes so they have better chances.

Set the planes on intercept. This is the Air Unit Fortification. It intercepts any and all planes that attack units/improvements within a given radius of the fort/city.

Maybe it's right in the game/manual, but I don't have it handy right now, but do intercepting planes get a defending bonus? Is there any advantage toward the attacker or interceptor?
