Attacking with archery units??

Do this, build 50 cho nu ku's (spelling?) and see if they are effective at killing. A stack of those bad boys is invincible WAY into many techs after it. Of course they require iron, but you did say archery units... =)

It is not uncommon to be stuck without a strategic resource at least early on in a OCC. The answer there is to build and tech anything that raises your power level. The Great Wall gives you 10k soldiers, if you feel you need more power you can convert a Gspy to a Scotland Yard for 8000 more soldiers rather than settling him, desperate measure but still. The Moai statues is another 10k soldiers..
Go for techs that gives you soldiers.. HBR is another 10k soldiers.. etc.
You have to use diplomacy well in this situation obviously, try to play nice with the aggressive civs and get them to attack other civs.

10K Soldiers? If I could get 10,000 Soldiers from researching HBR then I would be one lucky man :crazyeye:

Unless of course I'm not understanding your terminology.

Babylon has the Bowmen UU which has a 50% against Melee troops.

The Native Americans have a Totem Pole unique building that gives their archers 2 or three first strikes combined with City Garrison and Drill which comes with the Protective trait.

The Cho no ku with China is reportedly deadly.

I have tried and both suceeded and failed with a Bowmen rush. Haven't tried the other two.

A succesful Skirmisher rush has got me two enemy empires, but that was on a ridiculously small map with 2 players and 16 AIs. Also, later on I brought catties.

Cho Ko Nu or Cho Ku Nu is the correct spelling, and yes, these guys are monsters.

Also, a normal Crossbow stack with a couple of pikes and trebs (ignoring CS for maces) can be done (atleast with Churchill (Pro/Chm)). Did even manage against Toku, but shifted to maces later on. (And then redcoats )

"Soldiers" are what each civilization's power is calculated in terms of in the demographics section. In addition to units, certain buildings and techs contribute to higher power ratings.
