There seem to be many space scenario guys hanging around the forum the past few months. Wonder if anyone is interested in a ST-BAQ game over at the Civ2 PBEM forum that I'm attempting to start?

In case our newer members are wondering, its the first Kobi Star Trek scenario that was released.

BAQ is cool, except for the part about all the other races having techs they shouldn't have, ie, the Klingons with Constitution Tech.

When I made it (a long time ago) I didn't know how to do No-No trees so I based it on the simpler multiple looping tree I found in the Masters of Magic scenario. I know its not perfect but I have three standard (not entirely convincing) defenses I typically use.

1. IIRC you can't really get the other races tech till quite late and there is little point in researching down another races tech branch from scratch when you have your own advanced ships. Having useless techs would slow down your overall research rate as well.

2. Races did use each others ships, like Romulans used D-7s.

3. If you were in the space race and you managed to steal another races advanced designs, why not use them?

Also, the fact that the planets were attached together as land terrain made it appear slightly unrealistic, but I guess that nothing could be done about that.

kobayashi, are you in the process of making any new scenarios. I've downloaded three of yours - the two Star Trek ones and Zweiter Weltkrieg and I just can't wait for a fourth one.

I also made Star Wars Insurrection which is a remake of sorts for STBAQ including all the things I learned while making the first three scenarios. In terms of Graphics and Sounds it is my best work. In fact there are 2 SWIns games going on in the PBEM forum right now.

My fifth (and probably last) scenario is my Age of Sail scenario for Scenario Design Contest #4. That can't be released until after the winners are announced - at the end of the year.

Kobayashi -

Thought this might be a useful idea for a sci-fi game, though I was actually thinking of it for the regular game....

Is it possible to rig spies similarly to missiles, so that they can be carried on submarines? If so, how?

Why will it be your last scenario kobayashi?

Downloaded this scenario a few days ago, it's pretty neat but I usually like scenarios where your all built up and stuff. I also am not much of a Star Trek fan. Though I did particularly enjoy the sounds: "We are the borg" :borg:

Also liked the special events where you capture the special cities.

I'm interested as wellin knowing why it's your last; you are a very skilled scenario maker.

When I recently relooked at ST BAQ, I was quite surprised to find how much I had improved with SW Insurrection but even Insurrection has failed to achieve any decent measure of popularity. I guess its the natural cycle of scenario makers. I've reached the limit of what I can contribute to the pool of Civ2 scenarios and I don't think I can improve any further. When anyone mentions Kobayashi, they usually think only of ST Dominion War, not any of the scenarios which came after it.

I've done scenarios on all subjects I'm familiar with. In the latest, my Age of Sail scenario, I had to research for half a year before getting familiar enough with the subject to attempt a scenario and I don't think I would have had the drive to make that one if it weren't for the contest. I also don't want to release new scenarios which are basically the old ones in new clothing. Many others have reached this crossroad and decided to call it quits, so its only normal.

I'll still be hanging around here of course - and releasing my next scenario early next year.

I really liked all your scenarios. I would have lovedto see a follow up to Zweiter Weltkrieg in the form of a Pacific war. You make the war very realistic. By the way, can you give me some advice on how to repel the German advance as the Soviets on deity level? I can't seem to be able to hold them off. They just keep on pouring through.

ZWK Question

1. You get important advances (AA gun, T-34, sturmovik) when you lose certain cities, can't remember which, so pay more attention to protecting the others.

2. You are allowed to contact the Allies so try to get their fighter and bomber designs.

3. At a certain point, you must do a sneak attack on Ploesti, approach by sea through the minor Axis territory, to obsolete Guderian's Panzer Academy.

I've been trying that, but the Germs are putting up one hell of a fight. In one of my games I managed to halt the German offensive by taking Konigsberg. Might this still work?
